308 Can you cover a septic tank?

We have recently installed a biological septic tank. We were wondering whether it is safe to cover the unsightly concrete lid - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The concrete lids are just for access and inspection and should remain sealed. We covered ours over in the UK with gravel which was easy to remove for inspection purposes and desludging every few years. The air vents can also be 'hidden' but must not be blocked.

Hi Rachel

We have only had to access ours once in 11 years, but it should be accessible nevertheless, so agree with covering with gravel or putting big plant pots, nicely shaped pieces of rock, a statue, some of those big glass bottles you can find at the glass deposit places, some pieces of wood...we have friends who have a small moveable water feature over theirs.
