3990 ?Italian Internet Censorship

Hi
Just wondered if anyone else had come up against the 'barrier' which prevents access to any online betting site, even when accessed through Channel4, BBC,Timesonline etc.
Thought I'd have a little flutter on my brother's horse which is running at Ascot today - but no.. Mother Italy has stopped my horse in its tracks..
Any views, info

Hi
Thanks for the response -
No firewall.
My own broadband (lucky old me) computer in Italy
My conscience - maybe but it is usually the kiss of death when I bet on his horse
Can you try - go on any betting site ie betfair.com or through channel4 racing and see if you can get through. All I got was half a page of Italian officialdom.
Thanks

I suspect that there are laws about Itlaian rule betting on another country's events..........not sure but that rings a (distant) bell, so don't think you'll get in.

I'd love to try to help, but I'm in the UK & will get blocked by the office wirewall, sorry :(

Good news for your brother.......if you can't place a bet, he's bound to win!

Is it worth any of us having a bet if so which horse is it?

The Italian government has in place a law which prevents betting on (foreign) internet sites. Ladbrokes et al in the UK are currently trying to force Italy to allow it (through the EC courts).

You could always give an English betting shop a phone call if you are desperate to place a bet!!

'Expensive' (the name given after his wife discovered how much it cost!!)
in the 5.30pm at Ascot but it's an outsider. No responsiblity taken for lost bets!!
