carl... your forum looks pretty good too....
but i think the point of the one i mention is that it is there to join in an almost totally italian community... yours is good for help with the language but this forum has several thousands of members... gets hundreds of posts a day , and has sort of different things on to the normal foreign aimed italian sites...
for instance i know one member here is interested in the RAI 3 soap from naples...there a whole section just dedicated to that which is most probably larger than this whole forum.....
its very current on what italians think and do... and i think gives a pretty good insight to what they argue about..and how...
to me if you have the confidence to be able to participate in a forum such as this one it will be of excellent value in dipping your foot into italian life with italians.... to me a very good basic start for those planning to come and live here and want to get up to speed not only with the language but the thinking

It takes a brave man to admit to watching daytime TV, John!

marc... i guess you got me on that... my only excuse is the act that i usually make the lunch at home... end up putting the tv on to watch the 12.30 news om channel 6 and skip around if it isnt quite ready...what caught my eye was someone sitting behind a presenter one day on i think rai due... a sort of fascinating grin on her face and eyes straight at the camera... i thought nothing of it...next day was skipping through channels again... and i saw the same stupid grin with the ame face attached... my first theory was that they has a filmed audience and they ran the same background film...
not to be put off from my investigations the next day i have to confees i turned on early and lo and behold after five minutes there she was again... different top ...so they either had several different background films or they gave season tickets to the audience....
things get in your head ... i triied another couple of different programs and even clicked on the forum program on channel four(mediaset) and lo and behold the same people kept turning up... they even speak...but mainly they assume this sort of stupid grin type posture and clap a lot....
so i had established that italian live audiences were live... but how cold they always be the same... my wife solved it in one quick sentence...they are paid for actors.... so there you go...
for a while daytime TV was fascinating for me... but now the mystery has gone i am just left to cooking...and leaving the channel 6 mediaset adverts t run their course before the news...
totally disillusioned
