421 A relocation at last

Having been thinking about moving to Italy for sometime, my husband and I and our 3 children 8, 5 and 4 have decided to do it  Our plan is to start serious house hunting in the Marche area in 12 months time.

We are currently researching as much as possible and this forum has been invaluable to us, thank you all!

When calculating likely costs of buying and permanently relocating, we are uncertain how much to estimate the building tax as.

Is it possible to apply for residenecy prior to moving out and therefore only pay 4% building tax. If not, are there any other ways we can 'get away with' only paying 4%. As you can imagine this makes quite a difference.

Also not wanting to contact removal firms just yet, what would be a good figure to allow for removal expenses? We live in the the South West of England and plan to move to the South area of Marche. Any basic estimate at this stage would be great.

Many thanks all.

We've just done the move. The removal expenses vary greatly depending on the company, the amount of stuff you bring, how flexible you are and method you use. We had quotes from £5K+ to £2K. We hired a van and did it ourselves and it costs us about £2K.Our move was from Essex to nothern Marche.

We will be moving, also from the South West, in the next 6 weeks or so to the Garfagnana area and will probably be using europeanremovals.com as recommended in a previous thread. We are looking at paying between £1400 - £1600 for about 10 cubic metres of space.

YOu have 18 months to claim residency after you have signed the final contract so you have time. You pay the 4% and then if by chance you do not get residency within 18 months you will have to make up the difference.

Hope this helps,
Cristina

We are moving in October to rent for six months whilst wonderful things are done to our house in San Vittoria. Removals hopefully into the house direct once the roof is waterproof and we have some windows ... dont take any electriocal things - Communanza has a wonderful shop full of goodies. Keep in touch. want to swap with us? we live in bristol and have a fantastic villa in Tuscany! to have residency in Italy you must supply an address to the local Comune. They will send Police officers to check that you actually live there, fill up paper work etc so cannot lie!
