468 Budget travel to Genoa

I'm going to be travelling fairly regularly to Genoa and so I'm looking for the best deals on flying there.
Ryanair seem to offer some amazingly low prices but only depart from Stansted which is a real pain to get to from Worcester. The flight departs at 7.00am so an overnight stop and car hire bumps up the costs.
Alitalia departs Birmingham for about £240, but compare that with Ryanair at about £50 off peak.

ba.com will give you reasonable rates from Gatwick. Not great from Worcester either, but the times of the flights may be better for you.

BA dropped the Genoa route in March/April 2005 because of competition from Ryanair. Genoa seems to be a costly destination for a regular run. I might have to consider driving over. I used to drive to Turin regularly - 19 hours without an overnight stop - but I was younger then.

thats a bu**er - I used to fly to Genoa - I tried kelkoo - but Brum - Milan £140

but what about Pisa - Coventry flythompson

We fly to Nice for Liguria as we are under an hour from the airport. I agree that BA is often the cheapest if booked a few months in advance. Nice is available from several northern airports. BA (Man) and Jet2.com (Man or LBA) usually the cheapest and Easyjet the most expensive from Liverpool. BMI also fly to Nice. I imagine you can fly from Birmingham. The motorway is very good in Italy and is usually a fairly peaceful drive. It might take two and a half hours from Nice. You could of course fly to Milan (Linate) probably an hour and a half. You can check motorway conditions and weather for the Nice/Genoa route here http://www.autofiori.it/home.html

Ryanair quote £14 for Stansted to Genoa direct on 6th June departure and between £80 - 90 for a return a few days later.
My only problem is getting to Stansted from Worcester for an early morning flight- I think the trains from Worcester still run on a Victorian schedule which is a 4 1/2 hour journey and can include a bus transfer at times.
Low cost flights seem to be great if the're on your doorstep - but if you have to add on overnight stops, car hire etc; they soon lose their value.

You think you have a hard time getting to Stansted from Worcester? We make the drive from the south coast, and it usually involves a 3AM wake up and on the road ASAP because the Pescara flights require a book in at about 5AM.

We would rather do this than use our local airport because Southampton to Pescara isn't possible and we would have to do Soton/Paris/Rome and then drive the rest of the way. In the days before Ryanair that's what I used to do, but I got tired of getting to Rome and having to wait while Alitalia found my luggage (usually half a day) and on the return trip we always got held up and had to stay in Paris overnight.

Stansted can either be done as we do it by leaving in the early morning/dead of night or you can book a hotel in the area which will give you free car parking for the duration of your stay abroad.
