57 Travelling to France

I go to France quite a lot and find the drive a bit of a bind. Anyway, I just discovered a new line from Civitavecchia to Toulon. 13½ hours, three sailings each way per week. I am taking my little Corsa to France in March and will let anyone interested know how it goes (will have gone, went ?). The prce is under €200, includes a Pullman seat, whatever that is, but definitely saves money and inconvenience plus it avoids 2000 kms of Italian autostrada "drivers". Also, I hate the Frejus tunnel and over Briancon in winter is not fun.

Just out of interest, what route do you normally take through France when you drive?
