8533 Ma wee pussy revisited

She's a bit of a miserable old ****** that's seen better days but she's ours and she gives us great pleasure. Never mind all that though , what I really want to talk about is our cat.I know I've discussed this topic before and I'm sorry but it may bring fresh ideas. We have been investigating and checking around of various ways of bringing her from U.K to Abruzzo-----She's currently staying with a friend south of Birmingham. Have checked the companies that provide door to door services and quotes of £3000, Christ ,what a scam! Ruled out bringing her across in our van as it's a minimum two day drive and would'nt be fair on the old ******. She hates road travel and two days of it at her age might kill her. Have looked at airlines but they wont let them travel unaccompanied (but of course pet transport companies manage it) ----another scam. Ryan air don't take pets so it's one of the other big ones and I suppose it's got to be fly to Rome. So after we checked all flight times and logisitics and evertything it's looking awkward, time consumming and expensive but do able for Pilch to drive to Rome jump on a plane either stay overnight and collect her, or have her delivered to airport and fly back same day. This would involve full cooperation of our son who has likely as not would have to take day off work. So, while we are investigating all this and see if it works and makes sense. Anyone out there thats flying London to Rome that could pick her up from London and bring her out on plane to Rome????? It's probably a resounding "You must be bloody joking", but, You have to ask don't you.

just in case you have to resort to buying a solution, we moved our 3 cats here with [url=http://www.airpets.com]AIRPETS Heathrow - Pet Travel Specialists[/url] they were collected from the Cotswolds, taken to heathrow, housed for 5 nights (whilst we got down here with the dog in the car) and flown to Pisa - for £1200 in 2005.

Doubt it was your cat being transported, but going through Rome airport the other day, we came across the rudest person ever...

She was in front of me at the scanner thingy, she took the tray sliding down the rollers and put her bag in it, the next tray shot past her, I took it, put my ruck sack in and was opening it up to take my lap top out, she reached back, lifted my bag out and took the tray, putting another bag in it.

My only reaction was one of incredulity. Any way the next tray whizzed past her, I grabbed it and agian put my bag in and went about the lap top stuff. She again reached back, taking my bag out and putting her cat (which had come out of her bag) in the tray, I was not so pleasant this time, but looked at me and I was scared, ( I have seen the films about Medusa).

As she got to the scanner, the guy indicated that the cat wouldn't need scanning, and she didn't even look back and apologise!

Oh redslk, that is one of the most evocative posts ever. Personally I think the security man was most remiss - surely a cat represents more than 100ml of liquid, and deserved a catscan at the very least!?

Seriously - on the cat importation question - it sounds as if £1200 (mentioned by Ghianda) is not a bad price, considering the difficulties and costs of accompanying the creature yourself, either by air or by road. On the airline front, I believe you may be restricted to flying her BA (or Alitalia) out of Heathrow into Fiumicino: other airlines and airports are either not equipped or willing or allowed to move animals as far as I know.

We flew Gatwick -Bologna, with BA with our two cats. Not sure what that other pussy cat was doing in her handbag, can only assume she had booked it a seat and it was traveling as a passenger! Which actually is possible, but an expensive way to transport your moggy.

We had our daughter's pet bunny transported by land from Spain to London last June by EASYPET for 350 pounds. Door to door service in 24 hours. Excellent, but I understand that they only do this between Spain and the UK. You find them easily on Internet. Worth contacting them, they may recommend someone.

Yes, they did have to go B.A. from Heathrow (can't verify whether they were scanned or not though!!) We did think about driving the 3 cats down with us and the dog, but the thought of walking a menagerie around a French service station was too much for us.

Yes, the cats did fly B.A. from Heathrow, and the price and sense of caring about the poor unfortunate moggies seemed to be the best at the time. Included in the cost were VETS inspections and purpose built wooden crates (which we gave to a local for his rabbits upon arrival) Can't vouch for whether they were scanned or not though. We did think about driving down with the 3 cats and the dog, but the thought of walking around a French service station with a portable zoo every time someone wanted a pee was too much - so Club class it was.

We had much the deal for our 3 cats, passports, jabs,wooden crates etc , cost was just under a 1000, when we went to collect them in Rome, the warehouse first tried to give us 2 ( not 3 ) other cats and then tried to make us pay import duty.
On the otherhand MFBLOH and I traveled Ryanair for 40 quid.
We did hear later that British Midland take cats ( in the cabin ) for a ticket price, not sure how true that is now.

It is the size of the aircraft and the fact that it has a controlled temperature hold that is the deciding factor. So Ryanair is therefore not equipped. Please note it is NOT restricted to Heathrow, Gatwick and probably other large airports will also carry animals, and you can also fly them into Rome and I believe Milan.
The best thing is to check the large carriers web sites to come up with the definative answer.
