870 Florence - Venice by train

My wife and I are visiting Florence in early October which we have done several times. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to arrange a day trip to Venice by train while we are there as I have no idea how long the train journey would take, how frequently they run etc..

It will take about 3 hours by train. Trenitalia has a really good website just put in where you want to depart from and where you want to arrive and it will give you the times any changes you may need to take etc. Have a lovely time I love Florence and Venice.

Dawn.

I would really recommend not making it a day trip and having an overnight stay if you possibly can. Venice is much more pleasant in the evenings when the day trippers have left. www.laterooms.com is a good place to find hotel discounts especially midweek. Don't stay in Mestre or the Lido, make sure the hotel in in Venice 'proper'. It will only whet your appetite for more - I love Florence but think that Venice is another notch up - its truly one of the wonders of the world - the view that greets you as you come out the station lifts your heart. Make sure you get on a no 1 or 82 vaparetto from outside the station and take the trip all the way down the Grand Canal to St Marks as a starting point..

Hi

Another good site is www.venere.com.

Definately would recommend stopping over for at least a night.
