There does seem to be two sets of channels.
I guess the first set is on Sky Italia and is shown normally scrambled.
The second set is clear. The problem is when they show stuff that Rai has only bought the Italian rights to they scramble the signal. So the games and imported newer TV shows are all scrambled.
If my antenna did a better job I wouldn't care it's easy enough to switch.

You can find out which programmes are going to be scrambled via Rai teletext (and no doubt on the website), they call them 'criptato per l'estero'. (In the same way as BBC Radio Five doesn't stream live coverage of many major sporting events over the internet.) It is a pain, I agree!

I was hoping they offered a card of or something. I'd even consider getting a receiver with a card slot -)

I guess they must offer a card otherwise nobody would get to watch the scrambled progs!

So I played with the digital terresital box that has been sitting ignored. Rai has the three stations on there. Much better quality then just the analog OTA signal. I'm guessing when they scramble the sat I'll just switch over. Of course nothing is scrambled at the moment to check the theory.
Not too sure what the problem is, the Hotbird satellite seems to have two separate areas where RAI springs up, one lot is scrambled all the time but the other bunch seems to be in clear most of the time.
