93 moving to emilia

My family and I are hoping to relocate to Italy in the very near future.
Our house is currently under offer and (fingers crossed) we hope to be in a position to move by around May. We currently plan to rent for 6 months or so in a small town in Emilia and search around for somewhere suitable to settle. I may keep my job in the UK for this initial period a commute at the weekends.
I have a few queries
Is there still a market for turning up at a small village or towm and just asking in bars if there are any places for sales , or are most transactions doen through Agents?
Does anyone know what the saturation of English Language schools is in the region ( I am a fully qualified teacher , with a TEFL ).
Does anyone know the Tax implications of having a wife and child resident in Italy whilst I work in the UK. I have read several books on the subject but seem to be getting conflicting answers.

Any replies , suggestions , hints would be gratefully received

General chat about Italy

Hi Darren,
There is always a market for turning up in a town and asking around in bars etc about properties for sale. Let people know that you are looking, leave your contact details and you might strike lucky. The main thing to keep in mind though is to be careful. If you were relocating to another UK location I doubt you would walk around the local pubs asking if anyone has a property for sale. Just because you are moving to Italy doesn't mean you have to leave good sense behind!
Renting for a few months and looking around is always an excellent idea if you don't mind the hassle of 'moving' twice. You won't be rushed and you'll be able to follow the purchase of your property locally instead of on the end of a phone, or through emails. The extra costs of renting should be cancelled out by the savings you'll make by buying the right property at the right price.
Good Luck
Neil
