Got a feeling this may have been discussed before but i'm too lazy to search it  i've got the Hotbird system here in the UK and occasionally certain programmes, most notably now the games in Euro 2008, are scrambled. Anyone know why that is, especially given that all the games are free to air on the terrestrial channels over here.

RAI only has the Italian rights to the games. It's no different then the BBC only having international rights for some of what it broadcasts. The BBC decided to use a targeted beam on it's satellite signals. This supposedly blocks anybody outside of the UK from receiving the broadcasts. RAI decided to scramble the shows it doesn't have the rights to.
