Down our way we have made a good circle of friends who like to meet up now and again and have informal get-togethers. What happens in your area for entertainment? Do you mix with Ex-pats or not? Do you find, like myself, that you would like to mix with more Italians but find your language skills only go so far and miss the in depth discussions you used to have back home. I sorely miss the good humoured cut and thrust and social banter. But hey ho. Life is bloody good.

General chat about Italy

I would love to mix with ex pats and have a good old chat face to face in English at normal speed but I'm not in an expat area. At times my English really falls apart and I come out with some really odd half Italian half English things that don't mean anything. If you want to be able to have good level conversations in Italian you could do a language course, have one to one lessons and then just talk as much as possible in Italian (even if you make mistakes) start reading an Italian newspaper and just keep practising and bit by bit you'll improve you Italian.
