As usual, the fundamentals have been ignored. The real war concerns the bayonetters screwing the edisons. Now if we could all simply understand that this is one conflict in which the oil price is not a factor, nor indeed is it anything to do with the credit crunch, we might see the light.

I'm going to be kind and assume that you have made a typographical error Sally. You meant to type that you suspect I am a member of Mensa and not Mencap. Didn't you - you nasty mean spirited spiteful women Sally Donaldson? :laughs:

Sorry yes Juliancoll I did of course mean Mensa. Thank you for kindly correcting me.

(since we're on the subject of light)
SUN
The sun
Is a leaping fire
Too hot
To go near,
But it will still
Lie down
In warm yellow squares
On the floor
Like a flat
Quilt, where
The cat can curl
And purr.

Don;t think so J=C!.
"Light verse is poetry that attempts to be humorous. Poems considered "light" are usually brief, and can be on a frivolous or serious subject, and often feature wordplay, including puns, adventurous rhyme and heavy alliteration. Typically, light verse in English is formal verse, although a few free verse poets, such as Billy Collins, have excelled at light verse outside the formal verse tradition.
While light poetry is sometimes condemned as doggerel, or thought of as poetry composed casually, humor often makes a serious point in a subtle or subversive way. Many of the most renowned "serious" poets, such as Horace, Swift, Pope and Auden, have also excelled at light verse."

I was rather hoping the moderators would have dealt with this post. I can not see the humour or usefulness of this kind of exchange.
Mencap is a national charity, which supports people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, to use it as a means of poking fun at another member is beneath contempt.
This post is presently in the Health and Safety section, if it is to be tolerated could it at least be moved to the Circolo?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Nielo I genuinely made a mistake and Juliancoll accepted my explanation.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Nielo, while I appreciate your support and understanding that Sally may have used Mencap as a means of poking fun towards me (which she also has done several times in other threads) I believe that almost everyone here is aware that Sally has, shall we say, a different sense of humour at times and often cannot control her enthusiasm before posting hastily or checking for clarity and errors.
Perhaps her choice of words and phrases are often poor or scathing, as can be illustrated by the post above yours, where she points out that my use of the words "light poetry" is not correct. That post alone contains 3 errors (Don;t think so J=C!.) and the understanding of the humourous play on the word "light" used throughout this thread may be completely lost, but we must not judge - lest we be judged. We must also look at the positive side. My post ("Alma, is that what is commonly termed as light poetry?") caused Sally to research and track down a Wiki explanation, so increasing her knowledge - which is excellent. In fact, I'm quite proud that even a small light-hearted post from me can have such a positive effect towards education! :laughs:
I did not take the use of the word "Mencap" as a serious jibe from Sally as I am sure she is aware I am not "daft", nor do I ever pose "daft questions" - unless intentional, to prove a point or stimulate thought and most people easily understand that. This was just a playful thread and yet like so many others, has unfortunately spiralled into malignity due to carelessness.
I feel positive had Sally known that members of my family with these types of disabilities often use the services provided by Mencap and I that fully support the excellent work they do, that she would never have posted in the way she did.
Had she known this, then my response would have been completely different.
Sally has seen the light and apologised - which is not something we see often and so, we must willingly accept this apology as genuine and sincere. Please do not allow yourself to become upset simply because of a silly typographical error from a spiteful meanspirited woman such as Sally Donaldson.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I compliment you on your tolerance Julian and the fact that you are prepared to accept that using the word Mencap (in that context) was simply a typographical mistake and Mensa was what was meant.
I did not post only in support of you but also the many thousands of people who use Mencap and are constantly having to challenge the disability discrimination they face.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Your opinion. My response to your last paragraph. You seem still not convinced J so I will reiterate. I genuinely mixed up Mthe two organisation momentarily and I am aware about what Mencap does and what Mensa is. I certainly did not do so with the intention of being scathing. Far from it. Again thank you for correcting the mistake "on paper" Can we please leave it at that???

A perfect example. Lack of clarity as to what you are referring when you say "Your opinion." and that I seem "not convinced" regarding my last paragraph, allows me to wonder what you are talking about Sally.
I did not offer an opinion and my last paragraph was in full support of your apology, so I'm unable to respond to ambiguous gibberish - except to state when it is exactly that.
Shine a light - on this spiteful meanspirited woman named Sally Donaldson! :laughs:
