Hi,
It would depend on the area and region you are hoping to move to. If you can be a bit more specific and narrow it down there are lots of people here that could give you an indication.
Sorry to be vague, I hope this helps

Hi John, welcome to the board, the taxes depend on the type and size of house you have, I'm pretty sure I have seen a list on a thread. Try the "search" button for "property tax". as an indication, my Rubbish tax is around 90 euro per year, the ICI tax just under 200 euro per yr. both are paid in two installments, I have a three bedroom rural house with a couple of hectares of land. Hope that helps.

it depends where you intend to live and the size of house etc but if you are planning on moving to a rural area/house you may spend 150-200,00 Euro per annum for your local council tax (or even less)you may expect to spend, again depending on where, a similar amount as rubbish tax.you don't pay for street lights and didn't understand what you mean about gardens and parks but you don't pay for them here...

Hi vince here, we are moving to italy in March of this year, does anyone out there know of an insurance company which will insure our uk car in Italy?

Vince
Try www.stuartcollins.com. I think they're based in Cardiff. They use AXA insurance to get cover for a 12-month green card -- most insurers will allow you a maximum of 90 days cover abroad per annum for a British-registered car.
Our insurance cost us about £500 for two named drivers with considerable driving experience on clean licences; expensive, but that's the way it goes. We found the company very helpful.
People will tell you that all you need is regular insurance in the UK, and then just take the car abroad with a green card. But this will not cover you for a full year.
However, if you are actually moving to Italy, why not establish proper residency and then insure your car there through an Italian or other company.
We were forced to go down the UK insurance route because we were not establishing permanent residency in Italy (the old problem: you can only insure in Italy if you're living there, and you can't insure your car in the UK if you're leaving it in Italy [without a specialist policy such as Stuartcollins.com provide]).
Good luck with your move.

Was this in last thread? If you are over fifty Saga used to offer a policy for extended travel outside Uk.

Council Tax etc
As everyone else has mentioned, costs council taxes etc vary considerably depending on type of house, area etc. However without a shadow of a doubt you will find it is cheaper than the UK.

Hi
We bought our house two year ago. It was a five bedroomed farmhouse with 500 sq mtr garden in a small hamlet in the Appenine mountains and our ICI is 440 euro per year and rubbish tax is only 39 euro per year. Much cheaper than taxes in England. We don't pay anything else other than water and electric. Hoping to move over permanently eventually.

Hi guys

Just wanted to add my experience to this thread. We spent the best part of a week trying to get insurance for our foreign car, albeit two French cars and they were refused. We were told however, that should we have chosen to live in Milano or Roma, you know the big cities instead of Ostuni, it wouldn't be a problem. Explain that one?! So we took our cars back to France, sold them at great loss and expense of tolls, fuel, hotels, restaurants, flights back etc. x 2.

No, I'm not annoyed........I'm livid! Are we in Europe or not for C.....Sake!
