2431 Moving to Abruzzo

Hello one and all.
My partner and I, with one babe in arms and another on the way, are intending to move to the Abruzzo region in the autumn.

We have spent hours and hours trawling the various property websites. Can anyone recommend a town that is between the mountains and the coast where we can start our search, somewhere picturesque and not too quiet. Schooling will also be an important factor.

We know the Marche region and parts of Puglia quite well but know very little about Abruzzo.

Thanks
Chris and Angela

Obviously a question in search of very subjective responses. Teramo is a town of about 55k, mid way between the Gran Sasso and Adriatic sea, that might fit the bill. There is a university in the town and the schools in Teramo proper are decent from what my cousins who live there tell me. Finding a good school in the smaller hamlets surrounding Teramo can be problematic dal canto mio...

Hi, as Aliena mentioned 'adriatica' is full of knowledge about Abruzzo and has actually been explaining in several threads the nature and nature of living there so a good thing to start is to go to his profile and list from there all his postings, and ... start searching OR you could also try the Forum 'Search' option in the blue bar above with for ex. Abruzzo and Teramo key words.

I can't remember the names of the threads in which he wrote about this subject.

actually agree with stefanaccio about teramo... and the schools.. our son now goes to school there...primary...and the education system seems to be good all the way through and well represented in that city... which still retains all its old characteristics whilst developing....

more important i guess rather than schools would be what you are planning to do here as a means of support ... as work if that will be a requisit is more of a consideration in attempts to settle here than education .... there are schools everywhere but work...well..

Thanks for all your info. On the work front, Chris is qualified to teach English so we're hoping he can teach for a while.

Another question: I understand that you can't obtain a mortgage without a permanent contract of employment. Does anybody have any experience of obtaining a mortgage based on a business plan??
