2669 Calabria in World War 2

The Calabrian region saw lots of activity in World War 2 as troops moved from Sicily towards Salerno etc. I have 2 friends who are very keen WW2 historians and we've been to the Commonwealth cemeteries at Salerno and also Cassino. We're going to Calabria for a week in June and staying at my apartment in San Nicola Arcella with the intention of visiting anywhere of interest conected with WW2. Does anyone know of places of interest between Reggio Calabria and northern Calabria/southern Basilicata?

Mt father (now aged 85) was part of the allied landings in WW2 and made his way up from Sicily, across and then up the eastern side of Italy. He`s never terribly keen to talk about his experiences but I`ll see if I can pick his brains a bit. I also have a book that he gave me with some of the info in it - unfortunately it`s packed up at the moment as we`re about to move out of our trullo. In about a month`s time, when we hope to be in our new villa, I`ll have a look round for it and see if I can come up with more info.

That would be great, anything would be of interest I'm sure.
