2880 Hello to all!!

Hi! My name is Jadine and I am a HR Mgnr for Transport for London but please do not hold that against me!! :-) I fell in love with Italy after my first visit to Rimini approx fifteen years ago. Since then I have visited Venice, Milan and Bologna. I am planning another visit in June with a few friends to celebrate my 40th birthday and would love any suggestions on where we could visit.

Why Roma of course! Welcome to the forum, hope you find it informative. Happy Birthday and have a great time wherever you end up celebrating the Big One!!!

Have good fun!

It has to be Roma, if you've never been

I rather depends on what you want to do, visit another large city, perhaps tour the countryside, with its beautiful small towns & villages, or be beside the seaside. Do you have special interests? If you want to meet the Italians, then I suggest southern Tuscany & Umbria.

Do you, by any chance know Eric Cunningham in Street Management?

Hi Jadine
Rome has everything - the city/history obviously, but we live in the hills behind - beautiful villages on volcanic lakes and the sea is only half an hour from Rome (though you might not like the regimental rows of umbrelllas) and the Italians in Rome and south of Rome are the friendliest you are going to find- sorry don't want to sound as if I'm going off on one but Romans/Napolitani are the happiest fun loving Italians in Italy

Hi Jadine

I agree with those who have said Rome - it's a wonderful City that you can never tire of. But having said that we have loved places like Pisa and Lucca and I loved Sicily and Le Marche and Abruzzo are great, much less developed and maybe less touristy. It does depend on what you love to do. But if it is in Italy it should be great. Have fun.

There is a good B&B in Piazza Bologna - which is on the bus route and a metro line - only 2 in Roma.

Its cheap - and if there are 4 of you - even tho - the owner comes to make you breakfast - you - basically get an apartment - with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and small kitchen and a balcony.

The guy that runs it may look a bit scary - and walking up the internal stairs dont look much - but the apartment is immaculate.

For transport is location is very good - and you look over the Piazza.

Depends how long you are going for, and what you want to do.

If its a short trip - what about Turin?. Plenty to do for a short trip, and I have just booked EasyJet Luton-Turin travelling on Saturdays in June and July for £37 return. Also, if you don't want to hire a car, the train station is right by the airport.

Hi Lavender Field

Ideally, I would like to mingle with the local italians and visit an area that's less touristy so I am going to have a look at Tuscany and Umbria. Thanks for your response.

p.s. I don't know Eric, should I?!! :-)

Jadine

Puglia of course, not very touristy at all, unless you go in July or August when all the northern Itaians come to the south. :D

Hi Jadine

I've just bought a little house in Acquasparta, Umbria. It's almost exactly in the middle of Italy just south of Todi. No great prententions and super people. The great advantage is that it is on a small private railway line which links Perugia to Terni, the two major towns of Umbria so you don't necessarily need a car. Martana mountains for walking, train and E45 road for transport. Smashing.
