3830 New boy.

Ciao guy's.
I would like to introduce myself to you all.
My name is Allan Hutchinson, and I live with my wife in Bridgend in South Wales. My age is 47yrs young, and have no children. I am a pilot, with my own aircraft at Swansea airport, wich I try to fly as often as I can.
I discovered Italy for the first time in the summer of 2002. We spent two wonderful weeks in Sorrento, in fact just outside, in a town called Sant Agnello. We made some nice italian friends there, and one special friend, he cept the bar in the local piazza, at the top of the street where we were staying.
The following year, we went up to Lake Garda for two weeks, fantastic scenery, and the lake itself, was wonderful.
Again, the following year, we (as the song says) returned to Sorrento, to the same hotel (Majestic Palace), and met up with our friends again. Again, the following year, we went back to Sorrento.
This year, we are going to try Sicily, Taormina in fact. Never been there before, so it is going to be interesting. If anyone can give me some advice, then I would be very greatful.
Allan.

Allan, welcome!

Can I give you any advice? I doubt it, you seem to have got to the core of Italy straight away....wonderful place, delightful people & just a -ness that makes it's so special......keep exploring with an open mind & you'll be wonderfully rewarded!

Only advice (as someone who lives in Sicily) is enjoy Taormina but also explore the rest. Taormina is really geared towards tourism.

Head to Etna, try Acireale and Acicastello - or even drive towards Siracusa, Noto and Modica. Well worth your trip.

Welcome to the forum!

Ronald

Hope your wife loves shopping, Allan - as well as beautiful views, wonderful restaurants and an old amphitheatre, Taormina has beautiful designer shops. My husband left many pounds poorer after a couple of lovely days there with me last year!!!

There's a lovely perfumery shop just as you come into the town - highly recommended. Try to steer your wife past the Gucci shoe shop at your peril!!!

Go up the side streets and you can find all manner of things from bells for the door to pottery and glassware. I needed an extra case.

Enjoy and say hello from us!
Regards
Kath and Andy Thomson
