4037 buongiorno tutto

Finally got logged on!.Have had a good look at the site and really interesting to read others hopes, fears, experiences, thoughts etc etc.my wife and i discovered italy about 4 years ago now and have been to visit as much as been allowed(work permitting). We've been to Linguaglossa,Sicily-Rome-S'ant agata,Nr Naples-Venice-Milan-Monteombraro,Emilia romagna and our favourite Panicale nr Lago trasemino, twice!(i understand Perugia airport opens to Ryanair this september so maybe many more times as well!).We have just finished our beginners course(31 weeks)and i am planning to carry on with private tuition.i am a self employed roofer(flat and pitched) and have hopes that i can find some work out in Italy, firstly on a short term basis( 1 to say 8 week periods ideally)and then who knows what the future may hold!.We have an eye on a place nr Lucca to use as a holiday home initially(better than putting your money into a bloody pension in this country for sure!)and would like to think in latter years could spend more than holiday time out there.Until then a weeks trip to Vinci nr Florence is something to look forward to.Right.......Thats my life story!...feels like i've been on a shrinks couch!

Hi Neil, we just got logged on this morning too.
Interesting to know that about Ryanair doing flights to Perugia, Christine and i were in Lago di Trasimeno last August, we spent a wonderful day in Beautiful Perugia as well as great sightseeing in Tuscany too, hence our name Bramasole.

The Ryanair web site does not show Perugia as a destination, nor can you book whereas you can for new flights to say Marseille in November ..... Sorry

All i can say is that i read this on Laporteverde.com web site .Lets hope they know something we dont!

Perugia Airport news: Work is due to be completed on Perugia Airport by September 2006, turning it into an international airport. The work includes new car parks, access roads and an extension to the runway. Ryanair will be flying in immediately and the airport expects 500,000 passengers per year.

I had a look at that site and I don't even see anything there. I had another look at Ryanair news on their site, niente .....

It's true though that more of the old military airports are being opened up to commercial airlines shortly like Latina (close to Rome). Perugia could also be one. Ryanair is currently expanding its internal flights in Italy so maybe if Perugia is on their itinerary then it may well only be flying to Italian destinations.

Also Ryanair are not planning to increase their carriers at Stansted .....

Check this link - http://www.airport.umbria.it/ The flights are run bu Air Alps which I think is a subsidary of Alitalia. They do fly from London and Manchester to Perugia via Milano Malpensa .....

We are flying to Bergamo with Ryanair next month, it's a Package hol to Lake Maggiore through Inghams but they are using Ryanair from our local Airport Newcastle.
Other times we've had to fly from Manchester or Heathrow.

Hi Neil
Come and live in Emilia Romagna - I need a new roof!!!!
Lorraine

hiya lorraine,
if only it was that simple eh?.We were near Zocca recently and didn't realise that we were staying at over 2000 ft altitude.Early june and the car temperature gauge read 4.5 degrees!!.Snow on the hills and the headline in the papers was "Giugno sembre dicembre"....... typical.....bad weather follows me around. PS i'll get my tools!!

Hi Turtle

Have a look on the main page on the right hand column near the bottom,Its under the heading Perugia Airport News.I know Ryanair have not yet put flights up but maybe there is a delay in construction. Then again If you had an estate agency selling property in Umbria i suppose prices may just rise with the news of a local airport!........Cynic? who me?

Neil Hi

This topic I see was raised a year ago on Italy Forums!!! - http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/general-chat-about-italy-italy-magazine-forums/122-perugia-airport-expansion.html

Remember as my Estate Agent keeps saying to me "This is Italy" ..... Ryanair wouldn't take bookings until they are sure everything is in place and rightly so!!!

I suggest you contact Cuustomer Sevices, Ryanair, the contact details are on their web site though you have to do so by fax or letter. I contacted them for another reaon thrre times and got very good replies from them.

As for that "news" on the website. well I would have thought they would have had that way up the page!!!

Has anybody had any further news about this? My husband and I have decided to buy a flat in Sansepulcro and this would make getting there so much easier. At the moment we fly to Bologna Forli. Any comments on Sansepulcro would be welcome as we are hoping to rent the flat out to English people. It is situated within the City walls

you might like to consider the Which Budget site as it gives some useful links to which budget airline flies where in Italy.

OK, nothing yet on Perugia; we might see the Venice flood defences or the Messina bridge first though!

Don't hold your breath for Perugia airport. It might open to a budget airline one day, but probably only after the "carbon" lobby have stopped any airline being budget :)

But for Sansepolcro surely it would be six and two threes whether to fly into Forli or Perugia, and the northern stretch of the E45 is such a pleasure to drive!!.....aaahhh, except when it is snowed under....
