has anyone any tips on house and contents insurance? Is it best to go through a broker in england, just to overcome the language barrier if you need to make a claim. or is it better/cheaper to arrange cover locally. Any reccomendations of companies or brokers.

Is this for a holiday home or a permanent home? We searched around and found it was cheaper through Italian companies for our holiday home to include liability for anyone that would be staying there and the house being empty for periods of time. It was arranged through our lawyers so language was not an issue though I take your point that we might have fun in the event of having to make a claim.
This is an interesting starting place - gives online quotes for holiday homes - I think it was maybe 100 euros cheaper through the lawyers..
