You pay your ICI and Tasso Rifiuti at the Ufficio Tributi of your local Comune, or, if you know how much is due, you can pay by Bolletino at the Post Office. The confusing thing is that they don't send bills; they expect you to remember to pay and to know how much it is!

Hello Marc, We are in a similar situation to APJ in that, we bought our house in Abruzzo two years ago and still haven't been able to get the calculations done for our ICI. We find this worrying as we don't like to owe unknown amounts. The geometra we used when buying the house does not speak English and so we are relying on a friend who is Italian to sort the ICI out on our behalf. This is not working and very frustrating, we have now been told we can pay it in December and not to worry as everyone pays it late! Does anyone know an english speaking geometra or someone else who could do the calculations? Thanks

i dont know where in abruzzo you are...i do know that the wbe site for expats in italy gives examples and sites on how to do this yourself...

however if you are in the Teramo area our accountant calculates and fills out the bills for ici for us each six months at a cost of aprox e10... so can suggest him..but obviously not if you dont happen to live this side...

i think that you will find the late payment of ICI is not that common or ignoring it... i would not suggest you panic over this... often it seems i cause these sorts of mass hysterical reactions by trying to explain realisms....

really though either try and pay it yourself ... via these web based calculations... or on the next visit go straight to the commune with your friend... strictly speaking you will have fines applied for any payments you have not made... hopefully your friend will be able to talk this into a situation where these are not applied ... try and avoid attempting this in august...

failing either of the above try finding a local bookeeper, or going back to your estate agent for help.... or if out of some strange fluke you do happen to live in this area of Teramo ... and i mean pretty close to Teramo the city then pop in a PM and i will see if our bookeeper deals with your commune if you give me the details

Hi,
i agree with adriatica!!!
Thought it might be useful to add our experience.

We went to the commune and asked about it & the nice man ( in charge of finances)there worked out the ici for us and then we just had to go to the post office to pay it.

Dumb foreigner seems to work well in 'our' town hall.

I realise we were very lucky but it has to be worth a try:)

Although my geometra sorted out the ICI,Water and Electricity connections I think as far as the ICI goes it's straightforward.

1.Go to your comune with your passport and codice fiscale number.

2.They will photocopy passport (or take your own photocopies too in case machine is not working) and work out ICI based on floor space and I think land so take some plans /deeds anything official with these details. If you are doing up somewhere and dont live in it you may get a reduction so don't forget to say this!

3.You then get a print out which you must take to the post office and pay.Keep your bit of it to proove you have paid!!Have a big glass of wine and relax!!!

lastly we were told not to pay your ICI too early for instance on the 2nd June when its due around 21st!!No idea why.Perhaps they make you pay twice!

You will be told you can go to a web site and pay online but I don't think the small comuni are set up for this.Manoppello certainly isnt!
Lots of laughs when I asked!

good luck

Thank you everyone for the above advice, it is very useful, we are going out in September and will try to sort it then sue
