maybe some of you will email him and get a response... a good one or at least helpful i hope... actually if anyone does i would love to hear the results... and then my first impressions of his knowledge might well be dispelled or held up

A technique used frequently is rolling of the eyes ,look of disbelief that anyone could be so stupid to make such a request followed by general sulking and huffyness.

If your project is going to progress at all you must develope a way of ignoring this behaviour whenever it occurs.Whatever you do you must try not to be too polite.This is what these peopler are relying on.That your British reserve and reluctance to cause offence will prevent you from asking any tricky questions.
