At the moment it seems I can't have it _either_ way, although I'm a tax payer in the EU. I really need to sort my situation out as I can't afford private health insurance, but I first need a surge in energy to deal with all the ins and outs of the situation!

There has been alot written about this subject on previous threads, I would suggest you do a search. Would very much doubt that you can have dual health care, though not sure if your house in England would still admit you to the benefits of the English system. When we moved here permenantly our English Gp was obliged to submit a form to the NHS ,so our entitlement there would only be on an emergency basis should we return for a holiday (though cannot imagine why we would want to).
I guess the reasoning is that you cannot have it both ways!, I am sure other forum members may also have advice on this.
