A number of posts by this member break the rules on advertising and have been deleted. I wrote and email to the member to advise him of the rules, but thought we should stop short of banning him.

This is the text of the email;

Dear ........,

I'm writing to you on behalf of the Moderating team to inform you of the rules about using the Italy Magazine Forums to promote commercial activity.

We allow;

Referring to your own business in response to a question, if the reference is relevant.

Using the name of your business, and a web link, in your signature, as long as it is short and sweet and does not contain slogans etc.

We don't allow;

Posts which exist for no other reason than to advertise or gain Search Engine ranking for you site.

Posts which contain no useful information, but do contain a web link in your signature.

I hope you understand that the purpose of these rules is to keep the Forums pertinant and avoid spam. We frequently ban users who are selling products with no relevance to Italy, but in your case, we would prefer to give you a chance to contribute whilst staying within the rules. Please take this as a warning and post responsibly in future.

On second thoughts, I was being much too nice. The guy's address is a web marketing agency.

We'll probably never hear from him again, but if we do we should probably ban him.

Suggest you edit your post to point at his webpage without actually linking "blog.eqtrcom" or similar - otherwise we do his job for him?

Ha ragione Phil!

At least he was decent enough to reply saying he would be good in future.
