I see "clouds on the horizon" & would like to think that it doesn't turn into (another) free for all at moderator expense.......Marc/Ronald, I see this as your thread to respond to so will not be posting, but hope that there's a response sooner rather that later in order to prevent a hue & cry.

HI David,

replied in thread closed it to give Marc a chance to reply as well. If another thread re-opens on the issue will close those

Best,

Ronald

What with Forum posts disintegrating into vitriol and PM's flying in from all concerned, it been quite a week! I'm wondering whether we should consider suspending Carole B, Juliancoll, Ghianda, Charles Phillips and Sally for a week to allow them to get out and breathe some fresh air. It seems that all these people are using the Forum to work out personal issues and its driving away ordinary people in droves. Most, unlike SpiderPig, don't give a reason for wanting out, the probably just decide its a place for a bunch of saddos and get out a.s.a.p.

Could we reach some consensus on banning and whether my list of offenders is fair?

I'm not really close enough to make a comment, but you know I feel that some of these guys are a simple pain/agents provoctuers, others have jst been diluting the gene pool for too long....

To be frank, I've changed my strategy & have started to look more as acting as a spam-controller than acting as an idiot filter (that's too much of an uphill battle for me) as the squabbles haven't diminished (or increased) but my blood-pressure *has* dropped :)

I wrote my last post before reading Carole's criticism of me. Just thought I should mention that in case any fellow Mod's thought that my raising the subject of banning was a response to criticism of me, rather than the to other events that led up to it.

I do appreciate that my failure to consult other Mods or to explain my actions may be seen as arrogant, but my real motives have been to react as quickly as possible to spiteful outbreaks in order to limit the damage. Please feel free to admonish me if you feel I've overstepped the mark.

I've closed Carole's follow on thread; it didn't seem to add much & was only likely to inflame things.

I've PMd her to this effect too.

not at all, you/we can only do what we can, given that we are only human, and to be honest I can't keep up with it all. I still don't really know what's going on because I don't have time to follow the threads closely, keep up with all the subterfuge etc...

I too sometimes feel guilty that I can't (or won't) commit the time to follow these labyrinthine plots - but then, I figure that if I can't, how can any 'normal' person expect to? I think that for Mods, it quite an advantage to be able look at the Forum from the standpoint of a typical casual visitor, rather than someone who is studying it for their specialist round in Mastermind.

Carole's sent me a PM asking that I review my decision to close her Sal thread.

I'd like a quick assessment from the rest of the mods to check they think the action was appropriate.....I have to confess that I think the world would be a better place it if was Turtle-less, but that's not my call.

I also agree that it would be better turtle-less - I had the pleasure of meeting her last year at La Dolce Vita and when I suggested a time in the future when hatchets could be buried etc and a way of seeking peace, it was clear she had no desire or intention to go in that direction. But again, that's not my call either and I am also nervous of excluding someone like her when this forum seems to take up so much of her life and is so important to her. At the very minimum I think she should have her delete and edit buttons removed permanently, I think it would solve a lot of problems.

Does Sal still have EDIT permissions? I kep getting mails asking me to edit her posts, so had assumed that she hasn't; Ronald; please advise.

Most people subjected to the abuse that Sally has been, would have given up on the Forum years ago, but it seems as though her constant pleas for help are a way to attract attention and sympathy, which she clearly craves.
Edit permissions or no, the emails are sure to keep trickling in. I think we should just shrug and tolerate her!
