Hi,
I went looking at 2-3 bed properties around Lake Como 6 months ago. Depends really on what area of the lake you're interested in and your budget. Prices vary greatly. The further North you go, the more you'll get for your money and more chance of a Lake view. I viewed properties on the Western shore, North of Menaggio.
PM me if you think I can help.

Thanks for your reply Derek.I have around 100 000 euros to spend.Do you think this is a realistic proposition and if so which towns or villages do you suggest I look in. Is there any particular estate agent you would recommend checking.

Unfortunately with this size budget, I think you may have to consider a renovation or a small village house away from the lake. Either way, you may be struggling for a view, it might be quite high up and you'll need transport to and from the lake. Don't completely disregard 1 bed houses as some of them may be big enough, with permission, to split into 2 beds.
It'll be hard to find something but it can be done. Look at the towns on the North-Western shore, north of Menaggio; Rezzonico, Pianello del Lario, Musso, Dongo, Gravedona, Domaso, Gera Lario & Sorico.
I've also seen some relatively cheap properties in the hills [mountains!] between Lake Como & Lake Lugano.
Also, around 30km or so West of the northern tip of Como is the Sondrio valley which, I understand, is beautiful and becoming more popular.

If you will find that properties in Como are too expensive you could consider the Lago d'Orta .
We are in the process of preparing a portfolio of properties in the area.
