Thanks for the info. All you hear about is Tuscany and Marche region as desireable places. I have been in Marche and I find that the beaches and in particular the ocean is not as clean as it is in Gargano.

Marche are wonderful in the inner zone, hills and mountains of unbeliveble beauty, but the sea is nothing special, except the Conero area: it's still a nice place, but nothing compared to Gargano, Salento, Sardinia or Sicily.

I was born in Bari, where I lived until 1990, since then I live and work in Porto Recanati - Marche

Porto Recanati!! I think I have been there. I have cousins who live in Loretto and Osimo. We once went to a resturaunt on the beach which served the best fish I have tasted. I can't remember the name. It is a nice place. Have you ever been to Gargano? If yes, which town?

The restaurant is probablly Il diavolo del Brodetto: great!
I've been in Vieste and many times in Tremiti islands.
They are 3 little islands: San Nicola, with the old town and the cathedral, San domino, all covered by pine trees and Capraia, no houses, no trees.
Wonderful sea and beaches

Hie Notaio,
I'm new here but plan to emigrate to Italy next year and am looking at Marche, Abruzzo or Puglia. You wouldnt recommend Marche then cos I am looking around to live close to where u live?
I want to be near the sea and airport.
Regards.

I don't see anything that says that Notao does not recommend the Marche region. What he said is that the beaches are nicer in Gargano than in Marche. Both have their alure. It all depends on what you are looking for. Personally I'm looking for the beach and the sea.
I am sure that you would like either place.

Thanks,
I guess I was just trying to pick an experts brain as obviously I would like anice place to live in. :)

Both are nice places and affordable. Gargano, Puglia is more of a tourist location, no real industry other than tourisim, Olive Oil and Wine. Porto Recanti is closer to a city such as Ancona so I guess work would be easier to find, if you want to work.
Rgds

I was born in Puglia and I love it, but Marche, and Porto Recanati is the place where I choose to to live.
I think that Marche has the best of Italy.
It's a rich region, but not work addicted like some zones in the north (i.e. Milan).
It's an area full of history, each town has its old center, generally very well preserved, with monuments, theatres, museums.
The nature is great: hills of unbeliveble beauty, mountains, landscapes...
There are not big cities and so there are not the problems related to a city (traffic, pollution, crime etc)
Marchigiani are serius, simple and honest, may be not as funny as neapolitans, but who cares?
I give you an idea of how easy can be living in Porto Recanati.
I start working at 8,30, my office is just around the corner of my home, so I don't need to take the car.
At 12,30 there's lunch breck, I cross 4 streets, reach my kids on the beach, have a rapid swim, than go back to my house, lunch, little siesta and back in office for the afternoon working.
I still have my 8 hours working (or more if necessary), but meanwhile time for my family, and a bit of relax.
Not so bad....

I agree with you and at the same time envy you. What a life. Here in Canada it is GO...GO...GO. Stress is everwhere.. When I am in Italy the only stress I get is trying to get to the beach. I hope to retire there within the next 10 years. I guess it will be in Gargano (Peschici) because I already own 3 houses there.
The Porto Recanati /Ancona area would be my second choice. But I am sure I will spend time there because I know there is a golf course in Sirolo and I love to play. If there was a golf course in Gargano I would move in a heartbeat.
Take Care..
Very beautiful area.
Clean sea, the cost has usually rocky cliffs and the inner area is a national park (foresta Umbra)
Vieste, Peschici, Pugnochiuso, Mattinata are the best places, but consider the Tremiti Islands too: very very nice
Prices are not very high compared to other nothern regions (Tuscany, Venice, Liguria) and you could find several offers (hotel, houses etc)
