9160 italian tv house buying programme
have been watching recently an italian version of i guess a uk format house hunting programme... its on the discovery channel on sky Italy...most evenings i guess... i don't watch it that much...
however it does have an interest to me although they havent done a programme on property in abruzzo as yet...
looking for a house desperately is the title... and it has the format of an agent, an architect...showing house hunters three properties and then a choice at the end... all very familiar i guess
what is interesting to me is the costs of the properties and the estimates for renovations...
one night watching a search in Milan it was apartments of 2 beds...around the 90 sq meter mark ...budget 650,000 ... and they were struggling to get beyond the one and a half bed mark...for that amount... i reckon prices there are at the 6000 - 7000 euro per sq meter mark... this is close to centre...
another programme was unusual in the sense that it depicted almost what a UK buyer of a certain age would look for...escape city and buy a property to run a B&B... budget 750,000 ...
three properties again... two habitable...actually one very nice but not enough bathrooms and they were both within budget... last one was a mansion of 1000 m sq ... not a ruin but requiring a complete update and priced at their budget limit... what was interesting when they were discussing how to fund the restoration work was the architect telling them that they had to budget for a minimum of 1000 euro per sq meter... sorry did not see what house they chose... so cannot reveal the outcome... but for anyone planning to buy here its an interesting view on current house buying experience for Italians and in essence differs little from what i imagine the vast majority of all of us have been through.... do not know if you can pick up these sorts of progs outside of italy via satellite but its a useful base of info if you can
An apartment in Milan, close to the centre, at 6,000 to 7,000 euros per square metre sounds quite reasonable to me. Rome and Turin will be about the same price range. It is difficult to compare prices between regions. Obviously, this is the sort of property which would interest the average Italian who is still working.
