2404 x-country skiing in Abruzzo

Does anyone know which are the best resorts for this sport (sci fondo in Italiano) and the names of any reasonably priced hotels or agriturismos serving the area and also what the weather is forecast to be this coming weekend. It is not enough that a commune designates a patch of ground for fondo it has to be
Strong winds are predicted for our usual haunt (Piandelagotti on Emilia Romana / Toscana border) and anyway I fancy trying somewhere new.
I have found the following but know very little about facilities etc.

Campo Imperatore mt.1120 slm
Passo Godi mt.1630 slm
Prato Selva mt.1400 slm
Roccaraso mt.1236 slm
Prato Gentile 1573 slm

Also does anyone know this establishment near Capracotta and what type of accomodation they offer: Rifugio "Prato Gentile", Loc. Prato Gentile,Tel. (+39) 0865 94216.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hello, all the places that you have named are fantastic for skiing but may be too hilly for x-country. The best place, where most of the competitions are held, is Altopiano delle Cinque Miglia. this is an amazing flat place in between mountains that goes for miles ideal for x-coutry skiing. I will suggest that you investigate pescocostanzo as a place where to stay and from there you have more than 15km of pists to use linked to Pescasseroli, Roccaraso e Rivisondoli. http://www.hotelvallefura.it/invernale/home.html this is the only web site of hotels but there many more in Pescocostanzo just do a quick serach for hotels in pescocostanzo.

hope this helps .... snow boarding is much more fun :)

pm me if you need more info ..
