My son went to watch Inter, a couple of years ago, in a league match. He was amazed that one of the songs that was sung by the fans during the match was "Oh when the saints go marching in"
Apparently [he says] Inter was formed by Brits working in Milan. [Mind you - he could've been pulling my plonker]
.

Oh dear NO - not a new club, but one celebrating 100 years of football. Known by the Milanese and their fans world wide as "Inter". The Milanese call their city (in dialect) 'Milan' and the club 'Inter'.
N.B.That 'other team' from the city are known as just 'Milan'

Not pulling your plonker at all, A few clubs were formed and or managed by ex pats, at Genoa, most of there chants are based on English songs.

Inter maybe... I don't know who the 'rebels' were who split off from AC Milan. But AC Milan's first president was a British expat called Alfred Edwards

Both Milan and our ever so friendly cousins Inter were both formed by English business men that formed the clubs to play in while they were away on business, the reason they are Internazionale Milan is the founders wanted the club to be for anybody and everybody to enjoy not just the Italians and Milanese, which is rather fitting seen as they only fielded one Italian player on tuesday night and them he got sent off so The italian team ended with no Italians on the pitch!

I love the Maldini Avatar. I've always been a big fan of Maldini who should still play for the national team :notworthy: even though I'm one of your friendly cousins.
Typical, I support Inter who have mostly non Italians players and Chelsea who have mostly non English players.
It's a bit like me, when I'm in England everyone calls me the Italian and when I'm in Italy everyone calls me l'inglese !
PS Materazzi shouldn't have been sent off. Unfortunately, his reputation preceded him. Torres is a pussy and Gerrard and Rafa are blind idiots for saying that the ref (also a blind idiot) made the right decision.

yes it is only in english speaking countries you will hear people saying Inter Milan instead of just Inter. Really the two teams should just be refered to us Inter and Milan (the latter being AC Milan) - which avoids any confusion.
I reckon that both will go through to the quarter-finals, though Inter do need to get their scoring boots on at the San Siro. Remember everyone too that the Inter-Liverpool return match takes place a week after all the other second leg matches....

Your confidence in an Inter victory is exemplory!
As a Liverpool fan I reckon Inetr will get thrashed 0-1.
By the way, the similarities between the Pool and Milan is in the pronunctiation... Leeeverpool and Meeelan. Well thats how Ruuuud Gullit says it.

Mind you I suppose it does depend on which Liverpool team turns up (or is allowed to turn up depending on Benitez!)

True, but as his meddling has meant the only trophy they can win now is the Champions League, I am sure it will be his strongest team available.

Football Club Internazionale Milano is commonly referred to as simply Internazionale, Inter or Inter Milan; wikipedia (so it must be right, eh?) states that Inter Milan is never used in Italian and only ever used in English language countries. I guess some one more mamiliar with footie than me can confirm or deny.
