That's really helpful Alan, thanks. All in all it's costing me £180 return which is a lot more than I usually pay but I suppose I've been lucky in the past! I think it's probably still the best option in terms of the quickest and easiest way to get there, I just wanted to check out what the chances were of my looking in a few days and discovering it had been reduced back down to £5!! I know I can't guarantee that won't happen but I guess it does seem highly unlikely, especially as it's a bank holiday. If only I'd been in a position to book it last night! :frown:

Most banks offer electron cards and these are linked to your current account, so no need to topup, this may a better way for you in future, do not know why but banks do not offer these cars inless you ask.

The prices may well come back down or they may not - it's a complete lottery and much of it will probably depend on how well the seats sell. However, I'm pretty convinced that the companies are clever enough to have their computers maintaining a record of flight enquiries. They can see where the interest is and they can hedge their bets. So, if you look but don't buy and many other people do the same, chances are the prices may rise. If noone buys and time is running out, they may cut their losses and just fill the seats.
The low-cost airlines don't need to sell their seats at a profit - but what they do need to do is deliver a certain amount of passengers per year/season to a particular destination. We won't go into subsidies but you can imagine how this works in practice.
Hi there!
I have to drive down from Liverpool as there are no flights from the North West to Southern Italy (certainly none as convenient as Pescara anyway) and flying Liverpool to Rome is not an option.
No good for this time, but in case you hadn't noticed and it would help in future, Easyjet start Liverpool-Naples flights on June 1.

The Friday flight into Ancona is now at £12.99 (plus plus plus of course) which might be ok for you, its about 90 mins drive to Pescara, you could book Ancona in and Pescara back as one ways..
The Sat bank hol flights to/from Ancona are over £300 return with bags and have been this price for months. It may explain why few of the holiday houses seem to be booked up.

I am sure you are right - the fares either end of the May half term holiday have been horrendous. Friends (2a, 2c) had planned to fly out and stay with us but thought again when they saw the fares! They are now looking for a 'cheap' deal during the summer hols.

Ryanair flights do often come down after they have gone up but there is no way of guaranteeing it. Maybe it's best to check the prices every day for a while to be ready to take advantage if they do go down again.
Yes Bosco, Liverpool - Naples is GREAT news for me. I cant wait for that service to start and will probably use it a lot during the Summer months, but Naples to Pescara is a bit of a trek for Collette. Great scenery on the way though.
True, this would be a bit of a treck for me, especially as I'm actually travelling to Molise, about 80 minutes from Pescara. I live in hope of a Liverpool to Pescara flight but I know it'll probably never happen!

Anyway, I decided it wasn't worth the gamble and opted to book the Stansted - Pescara flight. I'll just make sure that in future I don't even check unless I'm in a position to book there and then!

Thanks everyone

Yes - following on from Eddie V, and Colette's last comment; I'm convinced Ryanair and Easyjet both deliver a cookie, so that if you check a flight price and don't book, and then go back later on with the intention of booking - the price has risen! The possible solution to this is to use a different cookie-free browser on your second visit! Dunno if there is any truth in this (because it is completely impossible to check out scientifically...unless someone knows better), but it has to be worth a try.

With Firefox anyway, you can delete cookies selectively even while on line.
But I'm too sceptical about the idea even to bother trying it. I think the model of increasing prices up until the day before flight time explains the pattern well enough.

Ummm - your notion with Firefox is good, but it isn't 'scientific' proof - is it!
It could be that one has simply happened to re-log (cookie free) into Ryanair or whoever in the five second period during which the prices have been raised (down to an extra booking by someone else, - ref alan h post) and get offered a higher price. On the other hand, if A.N Other has not bought a ticket in the meantime, you'll get the same 'old' price (logging in cookie free). You have not tested the scenario when you simultaneously log in cookied, or cookie free, and reported on the result......call me a pedant, I can take it!!

Molise is nearer Naples than Pescara is. Don't know where you are, but Campobasso is only about 150 k from Naples and a 2 hour drive. A lot nearer and easier than the horrible drive from Liverpool to horrible Stansted.

I travel to Guglionesi which is not far from Termoli so it's a good distance from Naples. I've just checked and the drive is 3 hours from Naples and 90 minutes from Pescara. My friend picks me up from Pescara which has always worked fine but there's no way I'd ask her to do a round trip of 6 hours to Naples (she wouldn't be confident doing that journey anyway). If I hired a car it would literally only be used to drive to and from the airport and would cost me more than parking at Stansted, plus I'm not really confident driving in another country so I wouldn't want to do a 3 hour drive on my own. I agree though Stansted isn't great and the drive is a bit of a drag, coming home is the worst, my flight in May it doesn't get in until 11pm :frown:

I've just check and my return flight has now gone up from £14.99 to £19.99 so I'm just glad I booked when I did. I too wonder whether they increase the prices for flights which have the most hits on their website. Although there have been occasions when I've checked the same flight over several days before booking and it hasn't increased in price??

Salerno Airport
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 03/17/2009 - 03:27In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
At the moment we fly to Naples airport to get to our house which takes aprox 90 mins however the airport just south of Salerno has extended its facilities and is now accomidatiing flights from Spain and Albania plus internal flights the airport authorities are actively canvasing for low cost carriers to use the airport hopefully this will result in either Ryan air or Easyjet using the airport.Which will help all those travelling to the campania region
Costs are almost guaranteed to keep rising - the norm is for seats to be clumped together at certain prices, each price higher than the last [for example - 10 at 1p, then 10 at £9.99, 10 at £14.99, 15 at £25 etc etc - always increasing at cost]
That's why it can be cheaper, on a late booking to fly by 'regular' airlines
To get to Pescara - look at flying to a major city in Italy, and taking an internal flight on to Pescara [we did it, before Ryanair started flying there.] - but check there is enough 'transfer' time.
The following link shows which budget airlines fly where [apart from Ryanair - who don't like sites to use their info] - it shows European, international and internal flights
