2384 Weather and wardrobe Rimini-Ancona-Ascoli Piceno

Dear Friends:

Attending Motogiro D'Italia in mid-May with my husband and seeking weather report for Rimini, Ancona, Ascoli-Piceno. I'll be spending most of my days on the back of a motorcycle, but have the option to bring a lighter jacket -- don't want to be as miserable as I have been in the past when the weather is very warm and I'm all covered in a bulky jacket with armor, but glad to have it when it's cold. Naturally, I'd love to pack light but need to be practical and above all, wish to be comfortable. Also, what does one wear at dinner? I've read all about the "no jeans or shorts," and conservative dress for visiting churches -- this is all I've been able to gather from other sites I've visited on wardrobe tips. Welcome to the forum LWBOCK :)

My advice is the little black dress, that can be worn with pants (to mean the same as trousers in England, thanks Allan) and layers of either a sweater, jacket or coat. Something that is light and can be handwashed and doesn't wrinkle. Do an easy mix and match with either layering to wear more or less. Basic black a good start. Some nice simple jewelry and a pretty scarf (for neck or head) that mix with everything is good too. Simple and classic layering for either casual or dressy, with warm cover-ups. Some comfortable and stylish black boots would be good too.

Hope this helps!
Dee

ciao this really depends on the type of resteraunt you are visiting many of the locals are jeans ,shirt type of affairs, i would say take what you feel comfortable wearing, nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable when going out for something to eat. ciao marco

May can be quite wet so make sure you have some sort of waterproofs. Having said that it can also be very warm. Sometimes at the same time!

Little black number & boots :p

.........

No, I'll refrain... :p

Completely off topic, but just so you know, Dee, a Brit would read that line in a very different way from the meaning you intended.

What are called "Pants" in the UK would be prefaced with the word under- in the States . :D

Then there are trousers... :)

LOL! Now I get it .... Since LWBOCK is Lorraine from San Francisco, California in the US, I'm hoping she'll understand that pants means trousers. If not it could be quite a "breezy" ride with her husband! ;)

 Although I find black boots ideal for the back of your bike, you might want to take an easyweight alternative for your smart dress. I can tell you, that dress on top of pants and black boots in May are sure getting you lots of attention down there (well, depends on your age, I am not going to inquire on that, but if you are anything above 17), because neither falls into the category smart. But hey, you are going to be obviously a foreigner no matter how hard you try not to, so what the heck, show them something more exciting than their neat, prejudiced dress-code, you might start a rage. and my tip is: buy your shoes in the Marche, especially round Civitanova they have the most exciting factory outlets, saves space on the luggage, so you might just as well take your oldest shoes for the trip and throw them away before you fly back in you new ones.

Ciao,

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

I think we're lost in translation here. A long tunic top (maybe mid thigh), that can be considered a dress or a top. Sorry I disagree that this look is somehow
odd as a) I've been to Italy and b) feel I do understand class and restraint in dressing c) I do look at Vogue and do like clothes.

The question was asked because she was going to be on the back of a motorcycle. Comfortable black boots because she may get off and walk around. Having some flats to replace the boots when going looking around off the bike is a better idea (although I think I did say stylish boots, and flat healed leather riding boots with slightly flaired long pants hiding the top part of the boots will look like plain flat shoes). As a traveler I know you understand the problem with flying? There are weight limits and fabrics that travel better than others. Keeping a neutral, solid color base of clothing will be good for layering was my point. I think black is good.
But hey, you can be right! I may have terrible taste, no class and no reason to have answered the post in the first place. ;)
