3248 Suggestions for special place to stay

Hi there,

I'm looking for a special place to stay in the countryside or by the sea for my wedding anniversary in September. I'm looking for small and charming rather than big and expensive - either a place to rent or a small hotel or B&B. The catch is that neither of us drive so I'm looking for somewhere that is accessible by public transport and is within walking distance of a really good restaurant. Have tried the usual sites but would really appreciate any personal suggestions or recommendations (bonus points for the restaurant too!). Have no preferences re area.

Thanks!

I would recommend 2 places - the Villa Cheta in Acquafredda (Basilicata). Small place, nice rooms, good food and a short walk from the sea. The other one is hotel Cesare Augustus in Anacapri - fantastic location on the headland and an infinity pool. A word of warning - go for the better rooms as we had a superior room (this was in 2001, may have been updated) but it was disappointing.
Have a good holiday

hotel mignon, in Aosta. its at the beginning of the gran san bernard road.
the hotel is a 2 star very clean and modern. in september the price would be
around the 50 euro a night b/b for 2.
fantastic mountain views, and the weather should still be good.
resturant next door but the town centre is only 4 or 500 yards away plenty
of places to eat at. Not a bad little city centre with plenty of roman stuff
and a fair few sites to visit near by....

Check out the www.tripadvisor.com website for some great suggestions and places to stay. You could try il fortino napoleonico at portanovo, close to ancona - its a fabulous place right on the beach and is a converted fort - restaurant if fabulous, but the shore is littered with many fish restaurants, all in walking distance. I couldn't think of any where I would rather stay.

How about Venice? Perfect for non drivers! Stay on one of the outer islands maybe - I think theres a junior Cip on Torcello that has rooms and is a fantastic restaurant too - not been myself but heard good reports. Trip advisor is a good place to start. The San Clemente palace is on a separate island so you're away from the hussle but with free boat trips to St Marks.
Nowhere is more romantic..

We stayed in this place http://http://www.specialplacestostay.com/search/display.php?FileID=gbb4914 on the Ligurian coast just north of the Cinque Terre and I think it would be perfect for an anniversay. You can get there by train and also by boat. We found it in the Alastair Sawday book on B&Bs in Italy. We've used it a few times and not been disappointed so far.

Have a look at the Riviera Romantica which is a lovely little corner right on the border of Le Marche and Emilia Romagna.
Takes in Cattolica which in September is lovely with its beautiful fountains and well organized beaches. Gabicce Mare leading to some stunning views from Gabicce Monte and also leading to the San Bartolo national park. And the real gem---Gradara one of Italy's best medieval walled cities.
Fabulous views and some great restuarants too.
The love story attached to the castle would be a great setting for an anniversary and you could even arrange to renew your vows on the castle walls.
From this area you can hire a classic vintage car for the day and explore many small villages.
Drop me a PM if you like the sound of it.
(Am I allowed to say this? )

Oops just remebered you don't drive and I'm rabbling on about a classic car-----never mind you can do it with a driver too.

We have stayed here http://www.latripergola.it/ for the past two years and found it a very pleasant hotel. It has walking distance to the beach, walking distance to local shops and cafe bars, restaurants and a really superb restaurant. You have walking distance to the local railway system that can take you to Pozzuoli, where you will find plenty of good restaurants or take the train into Naples. If you book through these people http://www.pozzuoliholidays.co.uk/ I know they have good service for people with no transport, as that’s who we went with on both occasions. Very friendly, very helpful.
