8638 Ryan air and Ski bags

Travelling to the inlaws in Torino in a couple of weeks and wanted to take skis with Ryan air. I know you can do this and according to the web site the is a charge for ski bags over and above your luggage allowance. I cannot see any where on their web site a size and weight restriction for the ski bag. I wanted to take a large bag with 2 or 3 sets of skis, some poles and maybe even a pair of boots or two. But I just dont want to get to Stansted and find they will not allow a bag of this size
Does anyone have experience of taking these large ski bags with Ryan air.
I dont think it will be a problem as you can take a surf board. But wuth ryan air it is always best to be prepared.

Sorry can't help with ski bags but last November took a load of Hep2o pipe with us for the central heating. I made enquiries at the airport before and they told me as long as it goes through the scanner size is not a problem. (the oversize bag bit). The coils of pipe were about a 800mm in diameter so size was not a problem. I made sure they did NOT weight more than the 15 kg allowed by Ryan air. We arrived at the airport with our coils of pipe, went straight to the payment desk and paid £10 for each 'extra bag' We then went to check in where they did weigh the pipe coils, checked our paperwork, put a label on them and told us to take them to the oversize bag desk. Went through fine. Even saw them drive out to the plane!!! Only problem encountered was at Pisa as they could not get them through the hole onto the belt so a man carried them round into the baggage belt area for us.

We did get some strange looks though from fellow fliers all of whom had posh cases of course :laughs:

That's such an hilarious concept, taking your central heating pipes to Italy. The Italians on the plane must have thought those crazy Inglesi will ski on anything! :laughs:

I have taken a snowboard bag full of boots, a board, a set of skis and poles with no problems, you do need to be careful that your bag is no more than 32kgs as the baggage handlers are not allowed to lift any thing over this weight, even if you are prepared to pay the excess, the other thing you need to check is the small print that says something like...even if you have paid for an extra bag the combined weight of all your bags cannot be over 15kgs or you will have to pay the excess per kilo over, it is worth double checking...they will get your money one way or another.
