8854 Ryanair hand luggage

Would anyone be able to clarify regarding hand luggage on Ryanair. Are they now allowing a handbag in addition to a holdall and is makeup allowed to be part of hand luggage if displayed in one of their clear plastic bags, Thanks

As I understand it the rules have not changed - ie one piece of hand luggage, a hand bag does count, and the same rules re liquids ie 100mls max all in a resealable transparent plasitc bag

I am travelling next week and so read every single word Ryanair publishes on their site today. No mention of allowing a handbag as well as a bag (of the specified size) weighing up to 10k. going in the cabin with you.Still only one bag allowed it seems? Anything "liquid, gel or paste" must not exceed 100mls per item and has to be kept seperate in a clear polybag, ready to "show & tell" at security. Can't see that anything has changed to the ruling since last year. Friends who arrived in Perugia today from Stansted back this up.

Sally, I travelled today on Ryanair... I saw several passengers carrying more than one piece of luggage in the cabin and nobody said anything. What they did check was all the liquids, gels and pastes which had to be in a sealable clear plastic bag as per current regulations.

Eh not so fast Gala!!! What I do is what others have to do and that is stuff everything into one bag and once you are through security then unload!!!. If you saw anyone prior with more than one bag, they were more than likely traveling with another airline which permits you to carry more that one piece of hand luggage. When you initially enter the security gate you are told if you are a Ryanair passenger, the maximum allowed is one bag.

Additionally of course you can buy goodies at the shops after security before you board.

Mara do check Ryanair web site carefully to confirm. Ryanair.com - FAQS : Baggage

Also a reminder not just to you but others that from midnight tonight Ryanair's web site will be down for three days as they are updating it. You can only book flights at the airport in this period.

(Glad Gala you arrived back safely)

Thank you, Sally, yes I arrived with a little delay caused by a family who managed to loose a British passport between the gate and the aircraft (!!!!?????)
Anyway, they were taking more than one bag to the check-in. I was a good girl and I put everything into a larger leather bag, including my handbag.... and the umbrella, just in case.... and I felt like a total idiot when I say all the other people taking with them all sorts of things. This time, they didn't even check the weigh of the hand luggage!!!! Very confusing....

Thank you for all the info Sally

Hi

A tip given to my much-travelled youngest daughter from the BA business class staff! (I wasn't paying!!)

Always carry a big black refuse sack with you - then everything, well in most cases - can be put into one bag. There is no mention anywhere about what this one bag should be.

This bag will then usually mould into the 'hand baggage tester' at check in.

It's worked well up to now.

Samsonite makes a large black bag which folds into a small pouch. I always carry one of these in my trips.

I had a similar thing when flying back from a meeting in London last year when I tried to go through security at Heathrow with my laptop bag and a handbag. I was told I had to check one of them in, so I went to the BA Customer Service desk ready for a fight, especially as I had flown from Manchester that morning with the same two bags and had no problems going through security. The wind was taken from my sails when the assistant handed me a shopping bag and asked if both bags would fit in it. He said that once I'd gone through security, I could dispose of the shopping bag. I said I'd keep it for next time and now always take 3 bags with me!

It depends on the airport...since the start of Feb some have now relaxed the 1 bag rule and others still have it. Best with the big plastic bag advice! Liquids still need to go into a clear SEALABLE bag (this is the biggest bit of rubbish ever...I was in Stanstead 2 weeks ago and the chap in front of me had his liquids all nicely bagged up. BUT the bag wasn't sealable and so he had to go back to the start of the queue where there was, handily (ha! she laughed cynically) a dispensing machine that sold 4 bags for a pound! Bargain! Being a really nice chap he gave the bags to others in the same predicament. I was directly behind him in the queue but I had a 4 month old baby strapped to me and was allowed to go through without even putting my liquids in a bag of any sort so it just goes to show what a load of old rubbish it is and how smiling at the jobsworth in charge of letting you through security will go a long way!!!!
:laughs:

Eh at Stansted there is a little area before Security where you can get them for free and organise your luggage.

Mara, the "new" Ryanair website is up and I would like to say running ..... "Ahead of schedule" too!!! But check out how slow this "Bargain" fare finder link is:-http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/bargains.php?partner=BARGAINS&pos=HOME_LEFT_SIDE And suddenly the 1p inclusive of taxes giveaway flights promotion to start this Tuesday has become £10 ones!!!

Yup, having flown through there several times recently, including last week I can also confirm that they give them away in the 'baggage weight check area' - right by the entrance to security. Liverpool were still selling them from vending machines last time we went through however.

Yes Sally, but, as you say, it is only a little area and there are always too many people trying to get organised. It is much better to do all this at home... if we know exactly what security wants.

I can assure more space there than home Gala!!! Anyway I do but sometimes things seem to spill out in transit to the airport or the bags I use are scruffy through pre usage.

I've always been made to put my (small) handbag in my hand luggage at East Midlands if they see it. Occasionally I've been able to conceal it under my coat. John has never been told to put his camera bag, which is probably bigger than my handbag, in his hand luggage. Perhaps the answer is to use a camera bag as a handbag.
At Pisa they have never shown any interest in how many items of hand luggage we have.
