Labor Day in Italy falls on May 1, this Thursday, therefore our Word of the Week is LAVORO.
The word lavoro can be used both for the terms work and job, as in:
- I go to work every day – vado al lavoro ogni giorno
- I love my job – amo il mio lavoro
To work is lavorare.
As Labor Day falls on a Thursday this year, many Italians will be able to enjoy “il ponte”.
Every May 1 since 1990, il concerto del primo maggio, the May 1 concert, a musical event organized by Italy’s major labor unions, has been held in Rome, in piazza San Giovanni. Here’s a video from last year’s concert:
