Anyone used the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry service? I'm hoping to drive down to the holiday home later this year, and was thinking of using the service.
By chance I went on the old Forum yesterday - found that someone had PM'ed me from that forum only a few days ago. I hadn't got any notification of a PM, but obviously the old Forum PM system still works It might be worth doing the odd visit

I can't find anything that states what to do in your situation.
I'd suggest that you phone the Italian Embassy for advice on the matter.
Will you have to quarantine for 5 days at your place in Italy? On theory, it looks like you should.
How will you get to Italy?
I thought that France, Germany and Italy had quarantine requirements on Brits, and no way through Switzerland. Unless, of course, you have Italian residency.
You could try Googling "Siena Italy Forums" to contact people in the area
Interesting that "nobody checked" on entering Italy from France.
However, one of my concerns is "how do you cope with getting a PCR test to enter the UK?" ........
Getting one done in Italy has timing probs on getting into UK, and yes, I know that you can drive non stop to the Channel port/terminus- but that isn't practical for us old timers, or something I'd want to do anyway.
Thanks for the update
It seems pretty clear on the government website
"Transfer of residence relief
Transfer of residence (ToR) relief is available when you:
The relief exists for those persons who wish to make the UK their normal place of residence. This means the UK will be your main principal home. The relief is only available to ‘living persons’ and their personal property. It is not available to trusts, companies, corporations, associations, groups or organisations.
There is no relief for goods imported from secondary and holiday homes.""
So -
- if bringing goods back from holiday home - you should pay tax
- if moving permanent home back to UK - no tax

Buying a car? I have heard that some get an Italian to buy a car and insure it, then use it themselves.. (obviously you pay for all costs)
