Questions Asked

I have two questions which I wonder if anyone can help me with: Gas - since we started getting deliveries of LPG gas some 5 years ago our supplier has always, automatically, applied a discount of some 8c per litre because we are outside the mains

RachelThis Fila No spot seems to be exactly the product we have needed for ages. Have looked for it in some of our local ferramenta shops and OBI but cant find it there. Could you let us know where you got it from. Many thanks

Thanks Ram.  Although no structural changes we did have some windows and a door or two put in. All approved by the Comune, registered and resulting in a higher catastal value. So I guess we probably do nee the Certificato. Will speak again with our architect to see if I can get to the bottom of this. As people say it may be a regional thing.

I am glad that this thread has come up as the matter of a certificato di agibilita is something that has been puzzling/troubling me for some time. We had work done on our house 6 years ago; this included converting the downstairs rooms into living accommodation. I know that all the changes have been registered at the land registry and we have a new catastal value as a result. I asked our architect on numerous occasions for a certificato di agibilita. He has given us a lot of documentation which includes a certificate from the Comune re our fossa biologica and 'certificates' re our gas and electric systems but no overall certificato di agibilita. He tells us that all the items he has given us effectively form a certificato di agibilita. Does anyone have experience of this/have one piece of paper headed Certificato di Agibilita. If there is such a document who issues it, the comune or an architect/geometra. I am sure and happy that all our work has been done by the book and everything registered etc but continue to wonder whether we should have this one elusive piece of paper. Many thanks Richard

We had the same problem in the summer. On checking with our gas supplier it turned out that we now have to sign a form each year( which they can provide) confirming that we are outside the rete metanizzato. Although we believe that we are, getting actual proof of this is not easy to find so thanks for the advice given above.

Thanks for the reponses. I will chase up the electrician for a certificate as I think he should be able to supply one. That said I think that, for us, it is probably only a box ticking exercise/ means of recourse to the electrician if anything goes wrong over the next few years. We dont have any intention of selling and if our kids  do decide to sell (which hopefully will be at least 20 years in the future!!) I guess a 20 year old certificate wont have much relevance then and they would have to get new certification at that time anyway. Richard

I am sure that local companies such as AllianzRas will provide cover for houses owned by US citizens. Suggest you ask the Agent you bought through for an introduction to one. Plenty of US citizens own properties in Italy so there is a solution to this. Would have thought that US insurance cos provide overseas insurance too

On the face of it the O2 card doesnt seem to work as it is a Visa card and Ryanair say it has to be a prepaid Mastercard.I agree it is v frustrating and there seems to be no way at the moment to avoid paying a fee to the card issuer (so you dont have to pay one to Ryanair).  Have spent the last hour searching for the cheapest card - difficult to determine as it depends on usage etc. That said, for us at least, Ryanair is still by far away the cheapest means of travelling to/from Italy so we will keep using them even though it wont be quite as cheap as in the past.
