We stayed in Fregene - beach town. Very pretty  chilled and cheap as chips : )

We had to to do on our house in Irpinia. Cost wasn't prohibitive but it took months to arrange - probably close to 6 months. It was then a 2 day job. So if you have the patience then I'd go for it but the water company won't act until you are the legal owner so it factor that in.

Agreed Ugo - every village in our area has a communal fountain and we filled many a 5l bottle during our dry months. The water is perfectly drinkable.
As for electricity we are now with Setvicio Ellettrico and pay roughly €50 bi monthly so around €300 per annum. We cook by gas but other than that all electric. We are only here for 4 weeks if the year however and our standing charge is still around €50.
Hope all this info helps.

We got connected with electricity fairly quickly with a SMART meter so no issues other than it's so much more expensive than UK but hey that's fine. Water however took us about 7 months to get connected- it was a nightmare. Overall cost about €1800 as we need roads closed and dug up over 2 days.

Hi Musetta Where in Avellino are you and your local furniture shop? We need a new bathroom installed in our house and are looking for alternative quotes as our local builder was ridiculously expensive. Thanks

Sorry for the delay in replying but I've had to do boring mundane work stuff!!There are several excellent options in Bergamo in both the newer low town - Citta Bassa or the old town Citta Alta - both well served by the No1 bus from outside the airport terminal building. The Piemontese Hotel - while not looking great from the outside is good, as is the Best Western Capello d'Oro or the NH hotel ( formerly the Jolly). In the old town the Alba B & B is an excellent choice but very noisey on a Saturday night, alternatively Hotel Piazza Vecchia or Albergo del Sole.I think they can all be booked via Venere.com and I have personal experience of them all expect for the last one however they also have a great restaurant so I'm basing my recommedation on that!Hope this is of help.Jenni

Hi thereIf your sister is flying into Orio al Serio with Ryanair I would recommend that she stays in Bergamo and just pops into Milan on the train for sightseeing. I loved the Castello, La Scala - all in the city centre and within walking distance of the Duomo - which is stunning. The June edition of a rival Italia mag currently has an article entitled 48 hours in Milan, with hotel and restaurant recommendations - a good read if you or your sister can get your hands on it.If you need Bergamo recommendations - let me know!RegardsJenni
