Hi,I'm a bit unfamilar with the Italy Community, so if you look at my profle page you will see my website address. Please send me an email and I will reply with some names of plumbers - no strings attached.
I can help you get a good plumber, I know a few, all Italian ones though who don't speak English. When I first moved to Abruzzo and needed a good tradesperson or two, I always asked at the local ferramanta that I used quite a bit and they've always come up trumps. Let me know if you still need help.
I always stay at a small town called Wasselonne, it is about 6 or so hours from Calais. The hotel I use for the journey both to and from the UK is called Hostellerie de l'Etoile. Have a look on Booking.com.Lovely restaurant at the hotel too, but there are others in the town if you prefer, including an Indian. Dogs are also free, (at the hotel not the Indian ) Private parking, some of it undercover if you're lucky. I pay €100 a night, but there are 5 of us in two rooms.
Instead of paying the high costs for the additional insurance, get insured by a third party. It costs about £50 and lasts for 12 months and they insure for everything (maybe not running out of fuel) but all the usuals. Try insurance4carhire. They used to advertise in the Italy magazine.
You actually do not need an MOT in Italy if your car is UK registered. Some UK insurance firms do not insist on an MOT, but they do suggest the car is maintained regularly. AXA will insure a UK car in Italy without an MOT. The trouble may start however if you want to take the car back to the UK.
When ringing ENEL or any of the utility companies, I always ask if they can speak slowly as I'm English and 9 times out of 10 they are helpful and speak fairly slowly. Slowly at least for the first 3 words!SOme friends always ask to speak to someone who speaks English and they put the phone down! Which to be fair, in some ways I don't actually blame them.
As said above every commune is different. We recently obtained residency and didn't have a private medical insurance, but had an E106. It wasn't an easy excercise getting residency, but as soon as we produced our E106, everything seemed very simple all of a sudden. As i have children we also had to have 15,000 euros in our bank. This figure was reduced about 2 months ago from 15,000 to 13,000, but again all of a sudden it was increased to 15,000, maybe to catch us out??We had to have birth certicates and marriage cert apostiled at the Commonwealth offices at Milton Keynes and have all documents translated, which could be done by yourself, but the had to be approved in court. On top of everything we had to have many marco di bollo stamps, about 200 euros worth, that's the trouble when you have 82 children!!!!If you need any more info, let me know, good luck.
