Thanks for this information. I have recently become interested in reading about the Gottica Line and the part played by the partisans and the American Buffalo Soldiers. This was prompted by the film Miracle at Saint Anna, a Spike Lee film, based on an actual event at St Anna near Pietrasanta.The film was made in a very interesting small village called Colognora, which has hardly changed over the years, not far from Bagni di Lucca. Let's suppose you are breaking all the rules i.e. no tax, insurance and MOT would you be allowed to tow your vehicle back to a pre-booked MOT testing station in England from Italy. Provided the towing vehicle was legal and using an A frame towing dolly that are sold on ebay quite cheaply.
Ryan air run flights most days to Pisa. From Pisa you can take a train, sometimes direct to Bagni di Lucca, or you may have to change at Lucca. It's quite a good service and cheap. Below is a link for a train timetable which you can read in English. For a small bombola l think, 10 litres liquigas, it has just cost me 22 euros and that was from a local shop. 'm sure you could get it cheaper.
