Buying- taking over or just renting a car in italy

I undrstand that for a new car in italy ther is no need to have the MOT done until its four years old and after that every two years (assuming this is still current?). what about an older car though?

    Hi Phil- just reading your replies to the above and made me think that we are getting quotes to have a garden gate built in Italy for our house- but from what you are saying maybe it would work out more economical to buy one here and then have it shipped out. I can price a gate myself but it would be useful if you can let me know how much it would cost to transport from Teddington to Le Marche (as mentioned in a previous reply our place is about ten minutes from the Jesi Centro exit of the SS76).     Thanks Phil- appreciated you getting back to me- i had hoped to be ble to drive it over myself, but time is never enough. In any event can you please get back to me with and idea of cost. Pick up point would be Teddington in Middlesex and our place in Italy just outside SAn Vittore which is a small village about 10 minutes from Jesi (SS76).  Looking forward to hearing from you.
