Piazza al Serchio are obviously late in announcing the date and amount. I had kind of hoped they were not bothering to ask for the second instalment! one can dream.
We too pay our enel and water bills by direct debit through the bank, and so far no problems at all. I can log on to our bank account and can also pay other bills through them from England. Does make life simpler.
We have had absolutely no trouble with our weimeraner dog either in Switzerland or coming back in Calais. Drove straight through the border in Switzerland and only a quick check through in Calais. We have a good vet in Italy who deals a lot with with pet passports so perhaps that is the key to a swift exit to the UK.
We used a good heating engineer recently from Camporgiano. He was Stefano, from a company called Idrotermica. Their telephone and fax no is 0583 611173 or Stefano's mobile is 328 0049389. I would definitely use them again.
We are also from the Garfagnana area, between Piazza al Serchio and Sillano. Although not resident, we spend about six months of the year here. I'm sure you will find lots of answers to your questions here - I certainly have.
Thank you. They were cut and split last year and left out in the sun during the summer and then stored in the wood shed, so maybe they will be ok. Though I will test them to make sure. I really need to get ahead and fell some more for the future.
Youneed to go to an electrical dealer to get an earth rod, drive it into the earth about a metre away from the house. Connect a 6mm earth wire to it and then to the fuse box - job done. If you live anywhere near us in Tuscany (Piazza al serchio) I will do it for you. By the way I am an electrician.

How long does it take to season the wood. We chopped down three trees last year and stored them in our wood shed. Would they be ok this winter?
I have bought a few items of white goods from the UK and they work ok here on only 3KW supply. I admit though you have to work out what on with what!
