Here's a toally unromantic recollection of Umbria (yes, it's a list rather than flowing prose!)

Todi - A wonderful market town that has a memorable church; loved it!

Assisi - A great place to drive to, but once we were there found it a touch tacky (sacred heart fridge magents etc..!)

Perugia - A real gem; understated but classy

Citta di Castello - the first time we experience ferrogusta & sussed out what the passegiata was all about(!)
I must dig out some photos.......

hi tuscnahills, that's just what we need. more "personal" views on places!

Hey Tuscanhills hope you bought the wine bottle covers in Assisi!!! You know the ones to dress your bottles like monks and nuns!!!!
lol x

...I know, I'm sure that Assisi means a lot to many folk, but I found it really disappointing.

If we're on the subject of churches, as a bit of a heathen, I found Todi delightful. The Church at Assisi was stunning too, but it was the muck one had to get past in order to get there that was the problem!

If you really want to visit and incredible church try Montefalco. Its about fifteen km's from Spello and Assisi. They have an entire village of small figurines set up in the Church - and its not just for Christmas.
