No, we've never taken a meter reading. I was planning to go and see them next trip anyway to try and upgrade my supply so it doesn't trip out all the time so maybe get to the bottom of it then.

We've had standing orders for Telecom and Enel for 4 years but still get letters to say a certain month hasn't been paid - a quick phone call and it's sorted (usually at the post office for that particular month)- why it happens is a mystery (or maybe a lazy impiegato) Never been fined but you do have to keep your eye on things (sometimes it's the fault of the bank)

Martin has just come in and told me that we should be paying our ENEL bills as `non-residents`, even though we are residents. Does anyone know anything about that? He says it would be cheaper!!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Check on the bill as to whether the rate you are paying is "D2" or "D3." This should give you the info you need.

Hi ya
I've read on this site before that D2 = Residenza and D3 = Non-Residenza
below are the tafiffa for both
Quota fissa €/cliente anno 1,92
Corrispettivo di potenza impegnata €/kW anno 6,24
Prezzo dell'energia (1) - I prezzi vengono applicati secondo i seguenti scaglioni di consumo annuo:
Per primi 900 kWh Cent. €/kWh 6,60
€/kWh 12,91
b) Componenti A e UC e MCT
Cent. €/kWh 1,35
Quota fissa €/cliente anno 26,40
Corrispettivo di potenza impegnata €/kW anno 15,48
Prezzo dell'energia (1) Cent. €/kWh 12,91
b) Componenti A e UC e MCT
Cent. €/kWh 1,35
I've checked my D3 Tariffa bill with next doors D2 Tariffa bill, his seems to be cheaper.
There are a lots more tariffa, EG: tariffa una+ and tariffa sera.
hope this helps

...enel hae decide to set up several new ways of charging and according to all the diferent tariffs you can save from one weeks free elctricity to e 90 per year...i think there are seven new types... ranging from people that live here and consume all the time to people with holiday homes and want reduced tariffs say in august...
i also think maybe one of the things with meters is that now at long last enel are beginning to use computerised readings from the supply box... i know we ahve had these a fair time now...but the only way for them to apply the new variable tarrifs is to be able to monitor usage ...so some of them are already in place ...and some...i think the second home holiday usage plans will be in place from june.... i presume all enel clients will eventually get a information slip about all this... i read it in last weks panorama...where the savings were displayed... they have a web site...so maybe go on it and they might have published the article there...

Dont count on it. More tarriffs is just about confusing the customer and allowing Enel to make more money out of people who cant afford it in the first place.

Thanks. In fact, I got it wrong, what he (him indoors) really meant was that we are paying as non-residents when we are actually residents! Must look into it, though.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Contact ENEL, they will send you a form to complete which is basically a self certification that you are an actual resident, return it to them, they will do the sums and sort it all out. We did this a few years ago and it was all very painless. If I remember you state the date you became resident and so will usually get a refund (or reduced bills until the difference has been paid back).
Good luck
I had set up a direct debit for my electricity bill to be paid from my italian bank account and it seemed to work for 9 months or so. Having just received my most recent statement from the bank I noticed no payment had been taken by ENEL for the last 3 months. I can't imagine why this might be so has anyone any ideas?
Cheers.
Hi Flyingveepixie
I’ve registered with the Enel website, I check and pay bills on-line with my UK credit card, and there is also the option of change your Tariffa and Contract on-line.

We do this and its really easy - only problem is you have to remember to log in to check whether you owe any money - reminds me I must do it or we will be cut off next time we visit.
You will need your codice fiscale. I think part of the site is in English but some is only in Italian but it is relatively easy.
If you have problems, our estate agent sent us an idiot's guide (in English) of how to do it, if you want to PM me with your email address I'll send a copy to you.

Once you create an account and log on, you will be given the opportunity to have bills sent to your UK address. I get mine sent to my home in Ireland.
Once you receive a bill, go online and pay it. Simple. Very easy and straight forward.
If, however, you choose to change your tariff or upgrade the power supply online, bear in mind that an engineer needs to call out to the house. I upgraded online and when I next went out there, a note had been left to say that an engineer had called but no-one was home. We called and an engineer came out the same day. Pretty good service from ENEL so far.
As an aside, my last bill stated that since I've been upgraded, there's no longer any need to submit meter readings as they can now read my meter direct. We'll see if this works but I'll still be taking my own readings.

It's true and it works fine. ENEL has almost completed the operation of replacing all the old electro mechanic meters with new digital meters that they can read remotely. In case of power faults the new meter can even tell the reason of the fault (it has a b/n display on it that can show some status messages) and communicate the fault to their technical service.
I have such a meter for 3 years and it is ok.

Look for the link that says something like.. 'Comunica la lettura'.
As far as I'm aware, however, you won't be able to forward a meter reading unless you have a current outstanding bill to pay.
Also if you have one of the new meters, you won't need to communicate a reading since they can do it direct.

The ENEL website is indeed a bit confusing. I am registered and was able to drill down to this page: http://www.enel.it/sportello_online/elettricita/servizi/ProntoEnel/Login/a.ser?funz=A06
On it was listed the date of my last reading; the reading itself; and the consumption. The numbers on the screen were fixed and not changeable. (I interpret this to mean that the readings are done electronicially and there is no reason for one to send them readings manually).

More or less you have interpreted well….the online message says: “We inform you that your meter has been added to the remote reading system, therefore it’s not necessary to inform us about your meter’s reading anymore”. That’s why the numbers on the Web page aren’t changeable.

I have just received a enel bill, i presume that they are read by a remote system, but the bill and the meter are hundreds of digits out?

First ENEL bill received today.. sent to my address in Ireland.
Changed to the Mare e Monti tariff early August and I have a 6kw supply.
They've charged me for August, September and up to the 20th October and it came to €85. We were there for the whole of August and 2 long weekends since.
I know it was summer, but I'm still fairly pleased with that. Does it sound ok?
It'll be interesting to see the differences in the bills between now and next Spring!

Don't know if they'll ever get round to replacing my old meter as we're hardly ever there to give them access and everything seems so slow and backward down our way. Anyway, it doesn't matter now as we're selling the house. They are still taking regular direct debits from my account but they seem to take breaks from time to time.

Pixie..
Your last couple of posts sound very despondent.. whats happened? Why are you selling up after such a short time?
:)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
We are new to all of this having bought a place in Lunigiana in August and just trying to come to terms with all things complicated - services being near the top of the list.
Our estate agent set up a DD to pay the electric and in November we took little notice of this as we only picked up the bill from her on the way back to the airport. However on a visit last week we had our first mail - yes you guessed it an ENEL bill. I of course went immediately to check the meter and they had charged fro far more we had used. I have phoned through the correct meter reading now.
Having used this forum a lot for useful info I have now come across this mention of the on line option and your offer to send you idiots guide on how to do it. Can Flyingpigs (or anyone else who has it) send me a copy for that would help us a lot as we do all our banking / bills that way in the UK. I did try to send a PM but your mail box is full

Its possible they will install an electronic meter without telling you whilst you are there but out for the day. That happened to us - we returned to find they had taken the box apart from the hinge side and then reassembled it. Very odd really.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Sorry about mail box - have emptied it a bit now.
However, we are about to fly off skiing in a couple of hours. If you send me your email will send the idiot's guide, but will probably be next weekend.
Sent a copy to quite a few others - perhaps one of them could send it. If you don't have it by next weekend let me know and I'll send it on our return.
However, yet again last week had difficulty getting in. Always seem to have to reregister - we have so many alias's now I am losing track!
Good luck.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I have never had a problem they would not make the connection until a direct debit was set up through my Italian bank since then they take the reading automatically and monthly payments from the bank if I am in credit they don't take payment and if credit is high they make a repayment it all took about 3 or 4 days to sort out and hey presto we had an electricity connected.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
A comment about the ENEL electronic meters: I called my electrician because suddenly I began to have problems with the power cutting out if I was extravagant enough to turn on more than one appliance, thinking there was a fault with my oven perhaps, causing the power to trip. The electrician explained that the old meters had a much greater tolerance to overloads and would let you draw up to around 6kw on a 3.6kw meter. No such luck with the new meters - only a small overload causes the supply to cut out. Oh well, at least there wasn't anything wrong with the oven.
And yes, I know I could upgrade the supply, but I'm trying to avoid doing so to keep costs down. My bills, for two people, electric water heating, electric oven, no electric heating, are over €200, which seems a lot to me. No gas bills though.
With regard to the various tariffs - a comparison can be done on the ENEL site (but it has been out of action for a few weeks now while they update (i.e. increase) the tariffs.

I've been using the online payment system for some time now. I certainly seems to be a bit tempremental but I've always found that it doesn't work one day it will work the next so it really is worthwhile to keep on trying.
Unfortunately the point at which it fails is when you click the button to pay having typed in all the payment information and sometimes you just don't know if the payment has been taken or not although I've yet to find my credit card debited twice (I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one).
We had one of the new electronic meters installed just after we moved in and our bills have always been spot on.

I did get a message once upon a time but I have subsequently gone on to say that there are no problems contacting Enel by e-mail. I have paid my bill too online without any difficulty.
We did a meter reading & rather than adjust the standing order, they just didn't take the payments for a few months.........you've not done that have you?
