3005 Beaches near Pescara

can anyone recommend any good beaches in the Pescara area that are a bit smaller and less busy? I'm thinking ahead-obviously dont need them in March!
Preferably no more than 20km either side. I've heard Vasto is nice?
Thanks,
Lyn

There some nice places on the way to ortona from Pescara, there some nice caves and some nice and peaceful beaches, take your own umbrella as there not stabbilimenti there.

Pineto probably has the nicest beach in the area!

Hi there

although I have been accused of 'not joining in' when it comes to some aspects of Italian life (hunting, meat eating etc) I will admit to throughly enjoying the italian style beaches where all the tables/chairs loungers are laid out in neat rows and you are never too far away from a cold beer or a loo!!! I've spent many a hot afternoon in Pescara lazing on a lounger and cooling off with a dip! heaven.i have tried beaches nearer Ortona but they are very stoney!

We live in Cornwall and when our 2 were tots we endured many an outing to far fetched 'unspoilt' beaches dragging the little darlings along steep cliff paths loaded down with all of their swimmimng stuff. When you did get to the beach the tide was always so high you had to perch on a rock with hundreds of other 'trippers' .Give me Pescara's groomed acres anyday. It must be heaven for those parents with toddlers to amuse!

thank you to the three people who have given me info on stoney and not-so stoney beaches!
While I'm on a roll: has anyone visited the thermal baths at Carmanico? Do you have to sign up for a posh hotel package or is there simply a public area where one can simmer gently?
Next Q: does anyone know when the ski season officially ends in Roccaraso? Does it simply depend on the snow? Or are other resorts open later in the season?
Ciao

Lyn, the beaches I am talking about are free and you don t have any of the comforts that becky likes :) but I supposed you have to sacrifice something for a bit of peace and tranquillity.

Caramanico is public place you can just turn up pay for what you like to do on a daily basis, you don’t have to purchase a “package”, doctors advise you should do a list two weeks of it if you want to “feel the benefit “ , Caramanico has many hotels where you can stay if you like to stay and experience “le cure termali “ :D

Skii season depends on the snow and weather, normally by this time of the year the sun is shining in the maintains and the snow is sluggish so can pretty much say that the season is over but this year as it is still bitterly cold you will find that the pists are still well busy at the week end !!

Hope this helps
ciao for now !!

Stef, thanks again-you are a mine of information! We are coming to our house in Introdacqua atEaster so i suppose its just best to check the Roccaraso site then for info.
As you seem to know the area well,I dont suppose you know any nice labourers who would like to dig our garden about 2 metres deeper! I have posted a thread on another part of the forum but got zero response.
Thanks

Salve Lyn,
I'm taking my tractor out when we arrive for good in Abruzzo in the middle of April, so if you would like to PM me maybe i could help you as it needs to earn its keep.

Isnt that funny, I live in Italy and cant think of anything worse. The beaches of Liguria are my nearest. Ironically we are going to Cornwall again this year plus Croatia, both for the beaches

Hi lyn
Beaches
Pescara itself has a lot of sandy beaches north and south of the Marina.
North of Pescara.
Montesilvano and Silvi Marina miles of good beaches some free, busy in the summer but good facilities. Have'nt been as far as Pineto but heard its good.
South of Pescara.
Franavilla al Mare long beaches some free but again busy in summer, free parking up to 30th April then E4 a day (terribly expensive!)
Lido Riccio smaller beach (our favorite), free parking and plenty of facilites plus free beach areas.
The coast now gets a bit rocky until Ortona not sure of any access to sea.
Ortona marina (down to the port and along the side road, never knew there was a beach until late last year) small beach again free parking and some free beach areas and a couple of bars/deckchairs etc.
San Vito Chietino nice beach, only been a couple of times in the winter (my favorite time)
Fossacesia marina beach ok but pebbley.
Went to Vasto once, beach seems ok.
South of Ortona you are getting into the rougher (but nice) part of the Trabocchi coast (see one of my previous threads)

Skiing
We had family over last weekend for skiing, they were lucky, the serious snow has only fallen in the last couple of weeks. the skiing at Roccaraso and Passo Lanciano is good at the moment with plenty of the white stuff 9raining here tonight so I imagine more white stuff. I don't think it will disappear for quite a few weeks.

Hope this helps

Our favourite beach is the stretch between Silvi and Pineto, especially around the Tower, about half way between Silvi and Pineto. A vast lovely beach and free.

I remember a post sometime ago, (maybe a year), I think from Adriatica saying this is one of the best beaches in the Teramo area and I have to agree wholeheartedly, it is stunning. There is also the 'usual' pine forest with picnic benches etc to get some shade.

It won't be long now before summer's here!

the beach at Marino san vito is lovely. there is a busy end and a quiet end which is more pebbly. There are a few nice friendly bars on the other side of the one way road (with speed bumps) so you can see the beach from the shade of a bar and keep an eye on the kids. the supermarket is just around the corner and its only about half an hour from Pescara along the coast road
