Does anyone know how much it costs per m2 to supply and fit cotto tiles (the real thing). We have found hand made cotto tiles for about 24 Euros per m2 but then they need to be fitted and sealed. Any ideas on cost for this part?

For fFor laying and a machine seal expect to pay around €50 per m2. In total €75 per m2 will not be too far off the mark for a relatively easy site. Expect to pay more if additional preparation is required. €100 per m2 would not be unreasonable if floor/ground has to built up and levelled.

pretty much as stated above http://www.lavorincasa.it/spendincasa/prezzi/494_pavimento_di_cotto.php http://www.lavorincasa.it/spendincasa/prezzi/495_pavimento_di_cotto.php http://www.lavorincasa.it/spendincasa/prezzi/496_pavimento_di_cotto.php anyway i posted as this is one of the best sites i think if you have a reasonable Italian knowledge for getting good ideas on prices also regulations and pretty well everything else to do with building work here in Italy its a starting point to gain knowledge before dealing with real people so that when the quotes come in you know straight away if they are within norms here or not..always handy in my opinion to be prepped.. it also may well dispel a lot of the thought that many people have re the rip offs..  some of which are really not as many people having never approached work of this sort have little to no idea of costs and have listened to selling agents give total under estimates either on costs or possibilities.. hasten to add not directed at the poster who seems more sensible than many

I laid a very small area of cotto tiles on the floor  between the bedroom and hall. These are all old tiles we have recovered from the ground all around our house. It costs about 1-2 euros for an old tile now so I'm quite happy to be saving money for a change. These old tiles are all slightly different sizes so you can imagine there was a certain amount of 'langauge' as I tried to fit them into the area I'd marked out and make sure they were all level ! I lay them into a bed of lime and sand that I spray down with water every so often. There shouldn't really be much of a gap between them but this makes them tricky to lay which is why when builders work with them you tend to get an ugly 2cm gap! Sorry builders! Anyway I only covered a square meter and it took a whole day so I don't think I'm going to get rich from taking this up as a profession but it was so satisfying to step back and see what I'd done myself. Only 30 more square meters to go! Wish me luck!
