8624 Hotels in Lunigiana

We are having a large family get-together this year in Italy & as such are looking for suitable places for friends to stay. Some are more than happy to hire a villa etc.. but others are wanting to stay in hotels.

My request is, can anyone recommend a hotel in a town that's 'nice'. By that I mean not Aulla (sorry, Aulla, but it's true!) but where one can talk a stroll around the town in the evening, shop from groceries, bits & bobs & the like?

I'm after somewhere between Aulla to the south & Pontremoli in the north; not a vast geographic area, but we seem to be hitting stumbling blocks at every turn :veryconfused:

All advice is welcome!

There are two hotels in Comano The Elisa and Miramonti. I have stayed in the Elisa and friends of mine stayed in the Miramonti last Summer.

Neither are 'posh' but very clean and adequate. They both have restaurants and the Miramonti also has a swimming pool.

You can walk to a chemist, butcher and grocery shop, there is also a hair dresser in the village.
The miramonti charged 35euros per person last year.

We stayed there when we were house hunting and found them to be good - not super cheap but clean and nice. Also our favourite restaurant Da Mauro also has a hotel. There are some good suggestions here, but i was really after somewhere where my folks (in their 70's) could be that's relatively central & they could pop out for a potter around the shops, buy a news paper, have a coffee without having to drive. I had thought Bagnone, Pontremoli etc...

Hi David

There is Castel del Piano across the river from Licciana. There have small suites and individual rooms all very nicely done and food is served in the banqueting hall. I do not know the prices but was given a guided tour by the owner soon after it was finished last summer. It is just a short walk down the track, over the packhouse bridge into Licciana. Hi TH - given your brief, sadly our B&B would not fit the bill as we are not walking distance to the essentials you mention.

Have you thought of La Lina in Bagnone? Certainly central, but rooms were pretty jaded 0187 429069.

Or there's the Manganelli on the way in to Villa Franca (from Aulla) - but I have no knowledge of this place other than a perfectly adequate lunch a few years ago 0187 493062

I'm sure you know the Gavarini at Mocrone, just outside Bagnone, which has traditionally been a "hit" with the English, but is not within walking distance of niente.

The sticking point for your brief really is the "walking distance to..." without that, as you probably know there is a wealth of choice.

Anyway Good luck - and if the brief changes, I'll be happy to give more suggestions

I think the best solution is Pontremoli, where they can have a nice walk and taste the famous Amor at the Caffè degli Svizzeri. There is the hotel napoleon, but I don't know how it is inside.

The major problem you will encounter is finding a "nice" hotel within walking distance of shops, restaurants, etc. You may want to reconsider Aulla. We've stayed at the Hotel Demy and found it fine. It's not luxurious but it is clean and the restaurant is certainly adequate. And, it is within walking distance of any number of amenities, including the river. Also in Aulla is Pasquino's. Don't know anything about the rooms but we love going there for their pannagacci, which is delicious.

There is a terrific villa in Agnino, the Podere de Sera, which easily accomodates 10 to 12 people. In Agnino is a little store and a bar and a good little restaurant in Malagno (sp?) about a mile down the road. But that about exhausts the places within walking distance.

There are some hotels/locande in Pontremoli and Villa Franca but we know nothing about them.
