I agree with Aretina. March is usually rainy and cold. Not the best time of the year for picnics....

What about Good Friday and Easter Saturday? Are there any traditional activities taking place then? (And I don't mean shopping!).

Last year I went with a group of other people to Rigo Piano for a picnic, It seemed as if half of Abruzzo was there but we had a lovely time and the weather was good.
The best thing was because there were so many people about, all the kids of our party went off and played football , etc.with other children and we adults got to sit in the sun and eat our arrosticini in peace :)
Our party was mostly Italians and Germans, very few Brits, but I suppose it was an early start. I think I posted an open invitation on this site but no one from here turned up to join us.

Ryaniar flights are quite cheap over Easter - presumably because schools don't break up until the following week. So quite tempting to fly over for a few days either side

Annec, we are looking to do this and also to get some minor repair work done at the house. Do you know if Le Marche (MC) workmen/builders work on what we call Good Friday and Easter Saturday? Also, any idea what the weather will be like? I can't find my crystal ball; could do the tea-leaves though!

I doubt very much if you will get anyone working on Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Monday apart from restaurants/hotels. You might be lucky on Saturday.
Weather wise, Easter is early this year so it depends on how high up and where you are in Marche but it may well be sunny but cold. You might be lucky as last year we went there in December and it was very mild.
We are going over for Easter so I hope the weather will be good.
As to your question on traditional activities, there will definitely be religious ones going on all over italy on Good Friday, processions, Via Crucis etc. If you do go for Easter it's worth checking the web in towns or cities near you especially for Good Friday.

Thanks Biagio, but apparently the lavoratori who are going to 'fix' our house do work on Good Friday so we'll be over that week. However, we will unfortunately miss Easter Sunday and the following week. Thank you also for a nudge in the direction of where to look for Good Friday traditions; here's hoping the work is finished by then. We were last over in the month of March in 2006 and were snowed in for a day!

Last year March 22-29 week it did not stop raining for a week. That was after a winter which was so mild it was extraordinary. This year at least the snow was early though I'm not sure how good it is now - seems to be mild for Jan. I'm keeping all crossed for cold and sunny - we really want to try the skiing but I'll be taking brollies and macs too I think..

Yes, very strange. All his/her posts just suddenly went! Must have included a self destruct button!

think it was an admin destruct rather than a self-destruct ...

Has anyone bothered to ask Ronald about this?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
not me - I believe user 'mungo' got deactivated a wee while back too, but there was no public announcement about that either, so the policy on announcing such decisions has either actively changed or has just fallen by the wayside.
I'd better say no more or I'll likely end up in the naughty corner for discussing moderation decisions in public ...

Don't forget Ronald is trying out the new site currently. I wonder who he chose for the test drive and if he has had any positive feedback yet.
Easter is so early this year, March 21-24, that we are not planning anything, the weather will dictate our plans - it can still be very very unpredictable in March, even here in Tuscany. We are not even opening for the season until the first week of April, when we can be more sure of better weather.
