I think the site is ironworkmarche.com but i tried it just now and couldn't get onto it. I have been tempted to use this guy myself and would be interested to get some feedback from you if you go ahead with him. Don't think you'll get wrought iron gates of that size for as little as 400 euros.

I think we found him - my husband mailed and his starting price is 1500€ for gates. Too much for me - I need to get to see the ones here on ebay and make sure they are not rubbish. The place is not so far from here so will check em out cos at that price its worth the freight. Sometimes prices are too good to be true so they may be rubbish. I do wish ebay italia was more like the uk version.

Yup thats him - gates start from €1500 he says so bit too pricy for us at the mo though I'm sure they are beautiful.

Thank you for posting our email address Ironwork Marche.
Without commenting too much there is no comparison with the "ebay gates" and ironwork made by us or fabricators in Italy. You get what you pay for!

I'm sure your gates are beautiful - the website looks great. One day I hope we can afford something as nice.

Hello Marinaw,
I have a chap called "Nando" he has done lots of jobs for me, both small and large. His factory is just outside Sarnano in Vecciola. His prices are very good and he would come out and see the job, then qoute a price. Try him.
PM me if you want his number.
I'm also looking at getting gates for the short drive up to our house.
I'd like to get them locally and I have been told that its possible and less expensive than you might think.
We have seen these on ebay
METAL DRIVEWAY GATES on eBay, also Fencing Gates, Garden Structures Fencing, Garden Plants, Home Garden (end time 28-Jan-08 16:46:42 GMT)
which seem pretty good value for £250 inc UK delivery .
Even if I have to freight them from the Uk (I have a load of other stuff I want to bring out so this is looking more economical than it would if it was only the gates to send) this looks like a good deal to me.
Am I really likely to get 3m x 2m gates made for us by a local blacksmith for under 400 euros? Not looking for anything fancy - just smart and secure. Anything more than that and it would prob be worth us buying these instead.
I thought there was a forum member in the area who did iron work but can't find him. We're close to Amandola and Sarnano if anyone knows a local metal worker and has any idea of likely Italian prices..
many thanks as ever..

As well as the place in Vecciola, there is a great blacksmith in Sarnano, opposite the cemetery on the straight stretch just B4 the Tamoil garage. We had quite a funky 5metre balcony done for €500 so I think if you want something simple it maybe achievable for €400, tell him your budget and ask to see what they can do for that sum- he has a bunch of catalogues. Alternatively, the English chap in Treia's site is Ironwork Marche his work looks amazing- but I don't know the cost

Superb design and workmanship! Congratulations! It is great to see that this art is still alive.

I just met a great character at Sarnano mercato who is a Contè, we got chatting and exchanged numbers. When I saw his card it mentioned that he salvages metal artefacts- I mentioned your gates and budget and he said that he can probably help- Who knows you may get yourself some wonderful old antiques. Send me a private message and I'll forward you his number.
I know of an English chap near Treia who is a highly qualified and skilled wrought ironsmith who has set up a forge at his house here - I may be wrong but I doubt he could do the work for less. I don't know of a website but if you want his contact details PM me and I will hunt them out.
There are also some Italian smiths in the Treia area, 2 are renowned for being expensive and for taking ages to complete the job, the other does less fancy stuff and might be able to do the work for less so you might be able to find someone more local to you who could do the same( fabbro is the Italian for blacksmith).
